Seein’ Red : ‘People Like You’

It must have been around 1988 when LÄRM* called its quits and Paul, Olav, Jos and Menno decided to call their new band SEEIN’RED. Menno did not stay long in SEEIN’RED because he moved to Amsterdam to complete his lawstudy and another reason to quit the band was the fact that he felt that belonging to the punkscene wasn’t that much fun anymore, the scene he used to know had changed too much, for Menno it was an end to an era…

You say you don’t give a fuck / About the bad things in society / You just close your fuckin’ eyes / And deny all the misery / Thanks to people like you / Nothing ever changes / You’re living your middle class life / Don’t care about the less fortunate / Your career and money is all you live for / It makes you fuckin’ hardskinned / Thanks to people like you / Nothing ever changes / Your aim in life is to get richer / Live selfish, think conservative / This road you follow is really heartless / You’re only taking, you never give / Thanks to people like you / We keep on fighting / Thanks to people like you / We know we do the right thing.

*…they recorded their half of the split LP with Stanx: 28 songs recorded in one single take on 8-track. Not wanting to use typical hardcore imagery for their record cover they chose a drawing of a distressed-looking running cow and the phrase “Campaign for Musical Destruction.” The band practiced in a barn at Jos’ house, and when they started playing the cattle would invariably start running.
