A San Francisco journalist avoided jail time yesterday despite refusal to answer federal grand jury questioning on his unpublished work.
Hours earlier U.S. District Judge William ordered freelance video journalist Josh Wolf to answer prosecutor questions based on an FBI subpoena.
Prosecutors told Wolf he was free to go after Wolf maintained his right to remain silent and to discuss posed questions with legal counsel, according to his attorney.
It was the second subpoena issued by the FBI demanding unpublished footage of a January 8, 2005, anarchist demonstration be surrendered to investigators.

I think that Sontag and others understood at quite an early stage* that the period after 11 September may cause the dehumanisation of the objects of obsession: Arabs, Iranians, people of color, or everybody assumed to be an unyielding “Mohammedan.” She understood, that the tragic events on 11 September would be used to produce new wars; that the neo-conservative cabal would seize the moment in order to fuel the post-Cold War momentum towards the new American century; and that we will be made complicit in the torture at Abu Ghraib, the destruction of Falluja, and the massacre of Haditha.
*I reckon anyone — whether with half-a-fucking-brain or a head overflowing with brains — knew what to expect post-911…
