At a time when disgust and rage with contemporary capitalism are profoundly felt and deeply rooted &#8212; and we are living through a period of many-sided struggle, conscious and unconscious, against the virulent disease that is the production-for-profit system &#8212; the SA contested it.<\/p>\n<p>Here are <a href=\"http:\/\/abc.net.au\/elections\/sa\/2006\/results\/port.htm\">the results<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>Port Adelaide<br \/>\nName \/\/ Party \/\/ Votes \/\/ % Swing<br \/>\n(Bold identifies the sitting MP)<\/p>\n<p>Anne McMenamin \/\/ GRN \/\/ 980 \/\/ 6.3 \/\/ +2.5<br \/>\nJames Troup \/\/ FFP \/\/ 838 \/\/ 5.4 \/\/ +5.4<br \/>\nKevin Foley \/\/ ALP \/\/ 10,027 \/\/ 64.5 \/\/ +6.7<br \/>\nAnna Micheel \/\/ LIB \/\/ 2,903 \/\/ 18.7 \/\/ -4.9<br \/>\nDarren Fairweather \/\/ ONP \/\/ 234 \/\/ 1.5<br \/>\nAmy Van Oosten \/\/ DEM \/\/ 369 \/\/ 2.4 \/\/ -3.8<br \/>\nJohn McGill \/\/ [SA] \/\/ 205 \/\/ 1.3 \/\/ +1.3<br \/>\n[Informal  \/\/  802  \/\/  4.2]<\/p>\n<p>This could be considered a &#8220;bad&#8221; result. After all, for a socialist party to receive 29 votes less than a party on the far right isn&#8217;t exactly &#8220;good&#8221;&#8230; is it? Dunno, maybe March 18 was a time when disgust and rage with contemporary capitalism was only vaguely intuited, and the deeply rooted were in bed, fitfully sleeping through a period of many-sided struggle, almost always unconscious;  dreaming, perhaps, of defeating the virulent disease that is the production-for-profit system&#8230; later.<\/p>\n<p>Oh yeah.<\/p>\n<p>There were also <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/elections\/tas\/2006\/\">elections in Tasmania<\/a> over the weekend. Never ones to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/elections\/tas\/2006\/weblog\/200602\/s1578999.htm\">set the media ablaze<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.socialist-alliance.org\/page.php?page=517\">the SA in Tasmania<\/a> battled it out with the elusive <a href=\"http:\/\/72.14.203.104\/search?q=cache:0Z5YjjHWuLYJ:election.aec.gov.au\/_content\/Who\/party_reg\/reg_party_details\/the_tfp.htm+%22Tasmania+First+Party%22&#038;hl=en&#038;ct=clnk&#038;cd=1\">&#8216;Tasmania First Party&#8217;<\/a> and those-who-choose-to-dress-casually for last place.
