The Zapatista uprising in Chiapas was one of the most dramatic and important recent examples of a genuine grassroots movement against oppression. Their words, ideas and actions continue to inspire new generations of activists to realise that it is possible for ordinary people, without wealth (or advanced weaponry), to challenge state power, and to do so successfully.<\/p>\n
