{"id":1703,"date":"2009-02-16T14:35:45","date_gmt":"2009-02-16T04:35:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/slackbastard.anarchobase.com\/?p=1703"},"modified":"2009-02-16T14:35:45","modified_gmt":"2009-02-16T04:35:45","slug":"the-crazy-world-of-the-conspiracy-of-fire-nuclei","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/slackbastard.anarchobase.com\/?p=1703","title":{"rendered":"The Crazy World of the Conspiracy of Fire Nuclei"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><object width=\"425\" height=\"344\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/NOErZuzZpS8&#038;hl=en&#038;fs=1\"><\/param><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"><\/param><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\"><\/param><\/object><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.iht.com\/articles\/ap\/2009\/02\/15\/europe\/EU-Greece-Arsonists.php\">Group says it was behind Greek firebombings<\/a><br \/>\nThe Associated Press<br \/>\nFebruary 15, 2009<\/p>\n<p>ATHENS, Greece: A small anarchist group has claimed responsibility for 17 firebombings carried out last week and threatened further attacks.<\/p>\n<p>All but one of the attacks with makeshift bombs were carried out in Athens on Wednesday and Thursday, and they targeted people such as a top anti-terrorism prosecutor, a prominent politician and a judge.<\/p>\n<p>No injuries or serious damage resulted, but the firebombings were carried out during the day, making them very unusual for arsonists&#8217; attacks in Greece.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our attacks are not symbolic, they are acts of war. &#8230; We will be back soon,&#8221; Conspiracy of Fire Nuclei, a self-described &#8220;urban guerrilla&#8221; group, said in a statement published on a leftist Web site Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>It said it dedicated its attacks to &#8220;authentic revolutionary&#8221; Dimitris Koufodinas, a prominent member of the terrorist organization November 17, who was arrested in 2002 and is serving multiple life sentences.<\/p>\n<p>The little-known Conspiracy of Fire Nuclei group only surfaced last year, and police have said they know little about it but take its threats of sustained urban guerrilla action seriously.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is a new development,&#8221; Deputy Interior Minister Christos Markoyiannakis told Greek media Sunday, referring to the claim of responsibility. &#8220;We must be vigilant.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>============<\/p>\n<p>Odd that an anarchist group should dedicate its actions to a Marxist nicknamed <em>Poison Hand<\/em>&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>Revolutionary Organization 17 November (Greek: \u0395\u03c0\u03b1\u03bd\u03b1\u03c3\u03c4\u03b1\u03c4\u03b9\u03ba\u03ae \u039f\u03c1\u03b3\u03ac\u03bd\u03c9\u03c3\u03b7 17 \u039d\u03bf\u03ad\u03bc\u03b2\u03c1\u03b7, Epanastatiki Organosi dekaefta Noemvri), (also known as 17N or N17) apparently <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ekathimerini.com\/4dcgi\/news\/content.asp?aid=18445\">murdered<\/a> two dozen or so people during the course of its Reign of Terror, the first being CIA station chief Richard Welch on December 23, 1975.<\/p>\n<p>The beginning of the end for 17N\/N17 was June 2002, when Greek police <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/2\/hi\/europe\/2094070.stm\">arrested Savas Xiros<\/a>. Remarkably, he was the first member of the group ever detained by police. The following months brought further arrests, including that of Dimitris Koufodinas, who <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/2\/hi\/europe\/2238775.stm\">surrendered<\/a> to police after having spent weeks on the run. Despite his denials of any involvement, &#8216;for the investigating officers, [French-born academic <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/2\/hi\/europe\/3300129.stm\">Alexandros Giotopoulos<\/a>] matched the profile of the brain behind the group, the &#8220;ideological instructor of the organisation and the writer of its proclamations&#8221;. Giotopoulos is the son of Dimitris Giotopoulos, a well-known 1930s Greek Communist and follower of Leon Trotsky. He is believed to have been active in the Paris-based student opposition to the military dictatorship which ruled Greece between 1967 and 1974.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/2\/hi\/europe\/3326609.stm\">December 2003<\/a>, Giotopoulos, Koufodinas and 13 others were found guilty of various crimes (in &#8220;Greece&#8217;s first terrorism trial&#8221;), and received multiple life terms (although &#8220;The maximum amount of time any of them will spend behind bars&#8230; is 25 years&#8221;, supposedly).<\/p>\n<p>Dimitris was known as &#8220;Poison Hand&#8221; for his skills with a pistol, and got 15 life sentences at trial.<\/p>\n<p>In January 2007, the US Embassy in Athens was attacked, and the blame attributed to a group called <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/2\/hi\/europe\/6472431.stm\">&#8216;Revolutionary Struggle&#8217;<\/a>; &#8220;Greek authorities have said they view Revolutionary Struggle as a successor to the November 17 group&#8221;.<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Group says it was behind Greek firebombings The Associated Press February 15, 2009 ATHENS, Greece: A small anarchist group has claimed responsibility for 17 firebombings carried out last week and threatened further attacks.
