Once there, they expropriated Trotsky&#8217;s ashes, took them home, and made some cookies.<\/p>\n<p>Inside the Museum (Trotsky&#8217;s former residence and the location of his murder by a Russian agent) a stone monument engraved with a hammer and sickle marks the spot where Trotsky&#8217;s ashes are interred. According to the baking brigade, what they stole was &#8220;a silver large vase that bears the inscription of his name, wrapped in the red scarf that he carried around the neck, containing the ashes of the corpse inside&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><em>Time<\/em> magazine, <em>Letters<\/em>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.time.com\/time\/magazine\/article\/0,9171,802024-4,00.html\">Monday, October 7, 1940<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Sirs:<\/p>\n<p>WHAT THE H &#8212;? MONTGOMERY<\/p>\n<p>Houston, Tex.<\/p>\n<p>\u226b Reader Montgomery doesn&#8217;t know the worst.
