His death triggered widespread rioting in Athens and elsewhere in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.occupiedlondon.org\/blog\/tag\/alexandros-grigoropoulos\/\">Greece<\/a>; these uprisings in turn helped to lay the groundwork for further revolts against state repression and the (ongoing) imposition of EU and IMF-backed austerity measures. (In October 2010, Epaminondas Korkoneas, the fascist-sympathising policeman responsible for executing Grigoropoulos, was sentenced to <a href=\"http:\/\/slackbastard.anarchobase.com\/?p=21303\">life in prison<\/a>.) The (<a href=\"http:\/\/slackbastard.anarchobase.com\/?p=5131\">so-called<\/a>) Global Financial Crisis has had European authorities shitting bricks over the prospect of <a href=\"http:\/\/slackbastard.anarchobase.com\/?p=1761\">Greek stylee<\/a> resistance spreading across Europe, a possibility which has been partly realised in some territories (<a href=\"http:\/\/aftaka.org\/2008\/12\/12\/direct-action-in-iceland\/\">Iceland<\/a>) and simmers away in others (<a href=\"http:\/\/slackbastard.anarchobase.com\/?p=22043\">England<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wsm.ie\/c\/irish-anarchist-review-2\">Ireland<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/libcom.org\/tags\/france-against-austerity\">France<\/a>).
