Allen, published by Verso. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.versobooks.com\/books\/ab\/a-titles\/allen_vol1_white_race.shtml\">Volume One<\/a> (1994) is sub-titled &#8216;Racial Oppression and Social Control&#8217;; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.versobooks.com\/books\/ab\/a-titles\/allen_vol2_white_race.shtml\">Volume Two<\/a> (1997) &#8216;The Origin of Racial Oppression in Anglo-America&#8217;. What <a href=\"http:\/\/poumista.wordpress.com\/\">Poumista<\/a> would probably describe as a &#8220;neat-o&#8221; summary of his argument is available <a href=\"http:\/\/clogic.eserver.org\/1-2\/allen.html\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I picked them up for a song from <a href=\"http:\/\/barricade.org.au\">Barricade<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Ted&#8217;s work brings to mind two other works of a similar nature. The first is <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.routledgemedia.com\/books\/How-the-Irish-Became-White-isbn9780415963091\">How the Irish Became White<\/a><\/em> (Routledge, 1995\/2008) by the <a href=\"http:\/\/racetraitor.org\/\">race traitor<\/a> Noel Ignatiev &#8212;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Irish came to America in the eighteenth century, fleeing a homeland under foreign occupation and a caste system that regarded them as the lowest form of humanity. In the new country \u2013 a land of opportunity \u2013 they found a very different form of social hierarchy, one that was based on the color of a person\u2019s skin. Noel Ignatiev\u2019s 1995 book \u2013 the first published work of one of America\u2019s leading and most controversial historians \u2013 tells the story of how the oppressed became the oppressors; how the new Irish immigrants achieved acceptance among an initially hostile population only by proving that they could be more brutal in their oppression of African Americans than the nativists. This is the story of <em>How the Irish Became White<\/em>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8212;  and J. Sakai&#8217;s <em>Settlers: Mythology of the White Proletariat<\/em> (Morningstar, 1989 (1983?) [<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kersplebedeb.com\/mystuff\/texts\/sakaisettlersocr.pdf\">PDF<\/a>]. A critical review &#8212; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsocialist.org\/newsite\/index.php?id=101\">&#8216;J. Sakai\u2019s Settlers and Anti-Racist Working-Class Politics&#8217;<\/a> by Sebastian Lamb (of the Canadian group <em>New Socialist<\/em>) &#8212; is available <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsocialist.org\/newsite\/index.php?id=101\">here<\/a>.
