Almost exactly two years ago, on May 30, 2004<\/a>, I decided to start blogging.<\/p>\n

I’m still not sure why, exactly. Maybe just to give me an excuse to write about things I was interested in but which, for various reasons, I’d failed to find an appropriate outlet for.<\/p>\n

In Australia, the anarchist press is almost — but not quite — non-existent, and radical scholarship tends to be either: a) operating within a ‘Marxist’ framework; b) produced by individuals completely uninterested in building radical social movements committed to struggling against capital, state and patriarchy or c) both.<\/p>\n

(There are, of course, many exceptions to this rule, and a great deal of interesting scholarship is being produced on contemporary struggles. But I find most of it to be produced by folks with whom I feel little real political or personal affinity… Hell, maybe I just need to get out more?)<\/p>\n

I suppose that one of the main problems I’ve been struggling with — apart from various health-related issues — is the fact that, if this situation is going to change, I really am<\/strong> going to have to do it myself<\/em>. By myself<\/em>. Which is fine, but still a daunting prospect. And, given that I already devote a considerable proportion of my time to other anarchist projects…<\/p>\n

Well, I guess you could say that DIY is a double-edged sword.<\/p>\n

Still, as far this blog’s concerned, I ‘ve really only started writing regularly since late December, 2005; that is, five months or so.<\/p>\n
