Anyway, the <em>Guardian<\/em> has a report <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/world\/2013\/apr\/01\/greece-golden-dawn-global-ambitions\">today<\/a> on the global ambitions of the neo-Nazis the committee apparently has no problems with joining them in celebrating Greek nationalism.<\/p>\n<p>Huh. According to anti-fascists who attended the ceremony in Melbourne, organisers of the annual <a href=\"http:\/\/neoskosmos.com\/news\/en\/parade-of-indepenence\">Greek Independence Day celebrations<\/a> have actively welcomed the neo-Nazi group Golden Dawn to the event.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Yesterday was the annual march to commemorate Greek Independence Day on the 25th of March at the Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne.<\/p>\n<p>Around 6-7 Golden Dawn members turned up with shirts and a large flag to draw attention to themselves and their cause, clearly using the opportunity to recruit and speak to sympathisers.<\/p>\n<p>A group of anti-fascists arrived to hand out pamphlets amongst the crowd, only to be told by Protective Services Officers to stop at the risk of removal from the Shrine. When asked why it was still ok for fascists to stand around and recruit, the PSO responded that they got permission from the organisers before the event to be there. So this means Golden Dawn were given a free opportunity to advance their cause, protected by the organisers and PSOs.<\/p>\n<p>The organising committee for the event and its chair, Kostas Nikolopoulos, owe an explanation to the Greek community as to why they gave Golden Dawn permission to spread their ugly message at such a prominent event for Melbourne&#8217;s Greeks.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Update (April 2, 2013) : I didn&#8217;t realise this &#8217;til now but the chair of the organising committee, Kostas Nikolopoulos, is also an editor at Neos Kosmos.
