Blah blah. Blah blah blah.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vox.com\/cards\/mike-brown-protests-ferguson-missouri\/mike-brown-shooting-facts-details\" target=\"_blank\">police murder of black teenager Michael Brown on August 9<\/a> in <a href=\"http:\/\/aboutstlouis.com\/local\/communities\/ferguson-missouri\" target=\"_blank\">Ferguson, St Louis<\/a> triggered a wave of angry protests &#8212; which in turn has created a media storm. One of the curious aspects of this reportage was the claim by St Louis police on late Sunday night\/early Monday morning August 17\/18 that:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" lang=\"en\">\n<p>Molotov cocktails being thrown at police.  Tactical units on scene.  Please leave the area!<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; St. Louis County PD (@stlcountypd) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/stlcountypd\/statuses\/501189523091361792\">August 18, 2014<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>This was soon picked up by <a href=\"http:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2014\/08\/17\/us\/missouri-teen-shooting\/\" target=\"_blank\">CNN<\/a>, among others: &#8220;Late Sunday night, a day of peaceful protests devolved into a night of gunfire, Molotov cocktails and tear gas&#8221;. The claim re Molotovs was disputed by others (&#8216;Missouri national guard to be deployed at Ferguson protests&#8217;, Jon Swaine and Rory Carroll in Ferguson, <em>Teh Grauniad<\/em>, August 18, 2014):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Police launched their first barrage of gas and smoke at about 9pm on Sunday after fearing an advance on their command post \u2013 in a mall parking lot just south of the centre of the clashes \u2013 by a largely peaceful protest march, according to Johnson. He said several molotov cocktails were thrown by those taking part in the march, which included children.<\/p>\n<p>This was sharply disputed. \u201cYou need to pull these officers back,\u201d Renita Lamkin, an episcopal pastor who has been trying to control the protests, told a police chief by phone, as teargas fell on the march. \u201cThere were no molotov cocktails,\u201d she said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Curiously, journalist Sarah Kendzior tweeted:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" lang=\"en\">\n<p>Eyewitness told me last night&#39;s Molotov at the chop suey place was thrown by white &quot;anarchist&quot; group. This been going on all week.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Sarah Kendzior (@sarahkendzior) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/sarahkendzior\/statuses\/501195504458293248\">August 18, 2014<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been unable to find any footage or stills of any white &#8220;anarchists&#8221; throwing Molotovs at either police or restaurants, but <em>The New York Times<\/em> uploaded footage from several days previous which shows a black man (an &#8220;anarchist&#8221;?) throwing one. See : <a href=\"http:\/\/boingboing.net\/2014\/08\/14\/video-standoff-in-ferguson-a.html\" target=\"_blank\">Standoff in Ferguson<\/a> by Brent McDonald (August 13\/14).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/slackbastard.anarchobase.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/d00dwmollie-e1408438557681.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/slackbastard.anarchobase.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/d00dwmollie-e1408438557681.jpg\" alt=\"d00dwmollie\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-36823\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The &#8216;chop suey place&#8217; Sarah tweets about may be a reference to the fact that on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stltoday.com\/news\/local\/crime-and-courts\/tear-gas-used-to-clear-crowd-gathered-near-quiktrip\/article_588ca269-0299-583f-b047-702a4268314b.html\" target=\"_blank\">August 11<\/a>: &#8220;At Northland Chop Suey on West Florissant, Paul Fletcher helped owner Booen Jang sweep broken glass from the restaurant. Nothing was stolen from the restaurant and the interior was left intact. But the bill just for boarding the windows came to $2,700. Fletcher said the total cost for replacing the windows is expected to reach $10,000.&#8221; Then again, given the distance of a week (August 11 > August 18) between the broken window and the burning, maybe not.<\/p>\n<p>As for (white) anarchists, a few Twitter users have made reference to whites being <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TefPoe\/status\/499386382964781056\" target=\"_blank\">bad<\/a>, but others appear to confuse &#8220;anarchists&#8221; with the followers of cult leader Bob Avakian, a\/k\/a the <a href=\"http:\/\/revcom.us\/a\/348\/michael-brown-to-eric-garner-this-has-to-stop-NOW-en.html\" target=\"_blank\">Revolutionary Communist Party<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Which, if nothing else, is at least mildly amusing.<\/p>\n<p>Otherwise, the media machine grinds on.<\/p>\n<p>For news and views from anarchists in St Louis, <em>see<\/em> : <a href=\"http:\/\/antistatestl.noblogs.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Anti-State STL<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Bonus Beck!<\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ZKyi2qNskJc?rel=0\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>See also : From Anarchists to Tibetan Monks, Here Are Some of the Outsiders Joining Protests in Ferguson, Josh Harkinson, Mother Jones, August 20, 2014 | Ferguson.
