Socialism vs. 2006 Victorian state election"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[Updated : Monday]<\/p>\n<p>Oh dear.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/slackbastard.anarchobase.com\/?page_id=336\">Trot Guide<\/a><\/strong> fears for the future of <a href=\"http:\/\/slackbastard.anarchobase.com\/?p=458\">socialist electioneering<\/a> in the state of Victoria.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1<\/strong>) In the safe Labor seat of Broadmeadows, <em>Will Marshall<\/em> stood for the horribly-named <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sep.org.au\/\">Socialist Equality Party<\/a><\/strong> (<em>nee<\/em> <strong>Socialist Labour League<\/strong>). <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vec.vic.gov.au\/state2006resultBroadmeadowsDistrict.html\">Preliminary results<\/a> suggest that he came last of seven candidates, receiving just 425 first-preference votes, or 1.53%.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2<\/strong>) In the safe Labor seat of Brunswick, <em>Vannessa Hearman<\/em> stood for the mighty <strong>Socialist Alliance<\/strong>. Hearman did slightly better than Marshall, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vec.vic.gov.au\/state2006resultBrunswickDistrict.html\">gaining<\/a> 549 first-preference votes, or 1.97%: enough to beat <strong>Family First<\/strong> (442 votes \/ 1.59%) and <strong>People Power<\/strong> (433 votes \/ 1.56%).<\/p>\n<p><strong>3<\/strong>) In the safe Labor seat of Derrimut, <em>Jorge Jorquera<\/em> of the <strong>Marxist-Solidarity-Direct-Action-Workers-&#038;-Community-First Network-Party<\/strong> has failed to capture the electorate&#8217;s imagination: <em>No son Chavistas en Derrimut<\/em>. (Jorquera came <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vec.vic.gov.au\/state2006resultDerrimutDistrict.html\">last of six candidates<\/a>, receiving 262 first-preference votes or 0.97%).<\/p>\n<p><strong>4<\/strong>) <em>Margarita Windisch<\/em>&#8216;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenleft.org.au\/2006\/691\/35916\">bogus attempt to arrest <em>Paul Wolfowitz<\/em> last Saturday<\/a> didn&#8217;t seem to endear her terribly to the good, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vec.vic.gov.au\/state2006resultFootscrayDistrict.html\">Labor-voting<\/a> people of Footscray; as the other <strong>Socialist Alliance<\/strong> candidate for a Lower House seat in the state of Victoria, Windisch came last of six candidates, receiving 406 first-preference votes or 1.45%.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5<\/strong>) Of all the socialist candidates in the election, <em>Steve Jolly<\/em> of the <strong>Socialist Party<\/strong> did <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vec.vic.gov.au\/state2006resultRichmondDistrict.html\">best<\/a>: he got 1,632 votes or 6.09% in Richmond.
