{"id":575,"date":"2007-01-31T00:37:26","date_gmt":"2007-01-30T14:37:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/slackbastard.anarchobase.com\/?p=575"},"modified":"2007-01-31T00:37:36","modified_gmt":"2007-01-30T14:37:36","slug":"young-tories-recruiting-now","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/slackbastard.anarchobase.com\/?p=575","title":{"rendered":"Young Tories: Recruiting now!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Do YOU think <a href=\"http:\/\/www.racismnoway.com.au\/classroom\/factsheets\/51.html\">Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture<\/a> is <strong>rubbish<\/strong>?<br \/>\nDo YOU believe high schools spend too much time force-feeding their students <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.aph.gov.au\/LIBRARY\/pubs\/rp\/1997-98\/98rp05.htm#ORIGINS\">black<\/strong>-armband history<\/a>?<br \/>\nAre YOU outraged that Australia is full of rubbishy old <a href=\"http:\/\/abc.net.au\/religion\/features\/sacredsite\/default.htm\">&#8220;sacred&#8221;<\/a> sites?<br \/>\nAre YOU sick and tired of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.melbourneinstitute.com\/labour\/inequality\/poverty\/default.html\">poor people luxuriating on welfare payments<\/a> while their unruly children avoid being properly schooled in loving obedience to the state?<br \/>\nAre YOU disturbed at the absence of advertisements promoting the virtues of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abs.gov.au\/Ausstats\/abs@.nsf\/39433889d406eeb9ca2570610019e9a5\/8b2eb904c4e70609ca2571e9001cad09!OpenDocument\">the largest single preventable cause of death and disease in Australia<\/a>?<br \/>\nDo YOU seriously maintain that global warming is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dissidentvoice.org\/Dec05\/Adams1202.htm\">a conspiracy theory<\/a>?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>So do WE! Yes, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.victorianyounglibs.org.au\/content\/view\/14\/29\/\">join<\/a> the party to party!<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>[At the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youngliberal.org\/fedcon.htm\">2007 Federal Young Liberal Convention<\/a><\/strong>] &#8230;the <strong>Young Liberals<\/strong> likened Aboriginal culture to rubbish and said 40,000 years of Aboriginal history could be &#8220;taught in one lesson&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The comments were made in opposition to a motion from <strong>Tasmanian Young Liberals<\/strong> that called for a special Aboriginal studies unit at the secondary school level.<\/p>\n<p>The motion was carried, although several <strong>Victorian Young Liberals<\/strong>, including president <em>Alexander Lew<\/em>, vigorously opposed it.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Lew said it was one of the most &#8220;politically correct motions&#8221; to come out of a Liberal convention.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Aboriginal history is important and should be taught at our schools, but you can squeeze 40,000 years into one lesson,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Another Victorian Young Liberal, <em>Miranda Airey-Branson<\/em>, asked why it was necessary to learn more about Aboriginal history and culture, saying some Aboriginal historical sites were little more than refuse disposed of years ago.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You go to Rome you see the Colosseum . . . if you come to Australia, we have got really old rubbish,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>[Miranda <em>also<\/em> said: &#8220;I like horses. I don&#8217;t like hairy-legged lesbians, although I did give Rowena a peck on the cheek at the last Young Liberals convention. Alex said it turned him on.&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/mirandaaireybranson.blogspot.com\/\">How utterly, utterly marvellous!<\/a>]<\/p>\n<p>The convention unanimously supported a &#8220;no school &#8212; no welfare&#8221; motion to withhold welfare payments from parents whose children were not regularly attending school.<\/p>\n<p>A motion rejecting the teaching of intelligent design in science classes was also passed.<\/p>\n<p>Other motions called for an &#8220;end to government legislation prohibiting tobacco advertising&#8221; and for the Young Liberal Movement to recognise &#8220;the lack of scientific consensus regarding both the existence and impact of man-made global warming&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Young Liberal Movement of Australia<\/strong> is considered the breeding ground for future leaders. Its alumni include Federal Treasurer <em>Peter Costello<\/em>, former defence minister <em>Peter Reith<\/em>, one-time Liberal leader <em>Andrew Peacock<\/em> and the deputy Liberal leader in Victoria, <em>Louise Asher<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theage.com.au\/news\/national\/coy-ambassador-hints-over-troop-pullout\/2007\/01\/27\/1169788741915.html?page=fullpage#contentSwap1\">Coy ambassador hints over troop pullout<\/a>, Reid Sexton, Jason Dowling, <em>The Ag<\/em>e, January 28, 2007<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Three years ago, Alexander and Miranda were embroiled in a minor scandal involving the distribution of false how-to-vote cards in the seat of Melbourne Ports during the last Federal election. Apparently, the pair falsely posed as &#8216;Greens&#8217;, and distributed cards urging voters to vote Tory (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theage.com.au\/news\/Election-2004\/The-Young-Lib-the-green-Tshirt-and-the-howtovote-card\/2004\/11\/02\/1099362144577.html\">The Young Lib, the green T-shirt and the how-to-vote card<\/a>, Misha Schubert, <em>The Age<\/em>, November 3, 2004). Miranda was also one of the editors of the <strong>University of Melbourne<\/strong> student zine <em>Farrago<\/em> in 2004, and it was in this capacity that she penned an article lauding the journalistic insights of &#8220;lovely&#8221; right-wing tabloid columnist <em>Andrew Bolt<\/em>.
