This week on Yeah Nah Pasaran! we talk to Emma Hagberg. Emma is the author of Comrades, Not Friends: The Revolutionary Front, Antifascism, and Class Struggle (PM Press/Working Class History, 2026), translated by Gabriel Kuhn and with a preface by Tomas Rothaus (both of whom have been previous guests of the show).
According to Hagberg, RF had ‘a strong collective identity, the view of fascists as class traitors, and the critique of an autonomous left that often had no place for working-class people’; Comrades was originally published in Swedish as 18.6 – Kamrater, Inte Vänner (B.E.L Publishing, 2024) and is also available in a German translation.
PM Press:
The Revolutionary Front (RF), 2001–2015, was the most militant organization on the left in recent Swedish history. Staunchly working class, the first generation of RF members engaged in numerous street battles with Swedish fascists. When the fascists retreated from the streets, RF attacked them in their homes. The police cracked down on the organization in 2013, raiding the apartments of several alleged members at the crack of dawn. The courts handed out prison sentences of up to six and a half years. Two years later, the organization folded.
