Fuck Shit Up / Friends Stand United / Finance Sector Union

Update (November 1, 2008) : Three men convicted in 2006 beating death of Corona man, Sonja Bjelland, The Press-Enterprise, October 27, 2008: Three Corona men were convicted of second-degree murder Monday in a beating death connected to a national gang. Richard James Dugan, 27, Jonathan Richard Morgan, 24, and Travis Daniel Westly, 25, face sentencing Dec. 12 after the jury found all three guilty of second-degree murder for the benefit of a street gang. Sean Gardhouse, 19, of Corona, was beaten June 23, 2006, in the parking lot of the Jack in the Box on Ontario Avenue in Corona and died five days later. His death focused attention on two gangs, Friends Stand United and El Cerrito Boys. Friends Stand United, a national gang, was written about in Rolling Stone in 2007. The group attracted attention with a DVD called “Boston Beatdown,” featuring footage of fights and music from hard-core punk bands…

Yeah so anyway. Anti-racists, thugs, or both, I dunno.

But so much for the Finance Sector Union.

*boom–tish*

FSU is “a fairly new phenomenon here and we’re still in the beginning stages of figuring out what these guys are all about,” Seattle police spokeswoman Debra Brown said. I say: following on from a string of other incidents (Friends Stand Charged: FSU Members Arrested for Weapons, Drugs Outside Local Club by Megan Seling, The Stranger, March 2–8, 2006, details one such incident), news that someone, allegedly a member of FSU, was charged with manslaughter back in January last year triggered a small amount of reflection on the gang’s (crew’s) past and present. Its past is fairly clear: the crew (gang) emerged as a response to the desire to rid Boston hardcore of boneheads and other racists; presently, the name has been adopted by a large range of others, in and outside of Boston, whether affiliated in some way to the original crew or not. Despite the overtly-hostile title, ‘Violent group spoils party for segment of music scene’ by Sara Jean Green (Seattle Times, March 7, 2006) provides a useful overview of the history of FSU, noting that the handful of arrests detailed in Seling’s report was more likely to have been of SHARPs than it was the Seattle FSU crew. Interestingly, Green notes that some of the friction in the scene is:

A matter of economics

The schism that’s occurring in the hardcore scene is at least partially due to economics, with a growing number of middle-class suburban kids getting involved in hardcore… Many don’t understand the etiquette or history of the scene, which has always had violent undercurrents, Collins said.

“I grew up in a trailer park with no money. A lot of guys in my crew, we grew up hard,” said Collins, originally from a rural area near Bremerton. Kids who grew up in places like Bellevue or Redmond “had to deal with tennis practice — we had to deal with not getting beat up on the way home from the [school] bus,” he said.

Though police have characterized FSU assaults as “random acts of violence,” Collins said that’s not the case. If FSU gets into a fight, there’s always a reason, he said.

“We’re civil people — we just don’t beat people ’til we can’t beat them anymore,” he said. “If I fight them, I’m going to fight them ’til I think they got what they deserved.”

But others worry that violence associated with FSU members could have a lasting impact beyond bruises and bloodied noses.

David Meinert, a former president of the Northwest chapter of the Recording Academy who manages the Seattle band Presidents of the United States of America, said FSU’s propensity for violence “is a negative black mark” on Seattle’s otherwise healthy hardcore scene. Meinert, who spent 10 years working to have the city’s Teen Dance Ordinance rescinded, worries that FSU’s reputation could prompt more police attention at all all-ages shows.

Speaking of economics, the producers of hardcore DVD Boston Breakdown offer an unnecessarily laboured response to accusations they unfairly profit from violence associated with the scene in Boston on their website. A not very posi review of the documentary is here; David King reflects on some hardcore issues here. Good, bad or indifferent, Alexander J. Franklin, the person charged with committing manslaughter in January 2007, has been acquitted.

Charges dropped in fatal fight at Asbury club

February 29, 2008

FREEHOLD — A Monmouth County grand jury on Wednesday refused to indict a Brooklyn man on manslaughter charges that had been lodged against him in the death of a Bass River man last year, the Prosecutor’s Office said.

Alexander J. Franklin, 34, a tattoo artist with reputed gang affiliations, had been accused in the beating death of James Morrison, 25, on Jan. 14, 2007.

Morrison died of blunt force trauma after an altercation at Club Deep, an Asbury Park nightclub, where he was allegedly punched in the head and later died of his injuries.

“A very thorough investigation was conducted at the time this crime occurred,” Monmouth County First Assistant Prosecutor Peter E. Warshaw said. “That information was presented to the grand jury in a thorough and comprehensive manner, and the grand jury declined to return any indictments.”

The grand jury’s vote means the police charges against Franklin are now dismissed, prosecutors said.

Franklin was initially arrested three weeks after the fight. At the time, police said Morrison hit his head on concrete after being felled by a blow to the head.

Morrison and his friends had allegedly been involved in an altercation inside the club over a T-shirt worn by one of Morrison’s friends. Show attendees said someone took offense that the shirt depicted a Confederate flag.

Prosecutors said Franklin was associated with the FSU gang — an acronym standing for Friends Stand United or two profanities followed by the word “up.” The group is reported to be responsible for driving neo-Nazi elements out of the Boston hard-core punk scene in the mid-1980s.

Warshaw said he could not comment further on the matter because of court rules that require grand jury proceedings to be kept secret.

You punk bitches, I am not racist or a drug addict or dealer. But to see you kids jump a guy becuase he is drinking a beer or smoking a joint minding his own business not bothering you at all. And you punk fucks jump him and try to force your will and opinion on him…why? What makes you the Judge and Jury? You talk about people being misled in life, look in the mirror. I would enjoy seeing how you would react if you messed with the wrong people ie someone in a real gang or organized crime faction. Hah

  3. FSU can't fight alone says:

what a bunch of pussys lol fighting like a bunch of fairys. man up if your so tuff and fight like a man not like a bunch of scared little punks who get beat down when by themself. these are just pussys jumping people at blink 182 shows.

  4. Chewie says:

Everyone who tries to act like a billy badass knows deep inside they are putting up a front and should maybe for once in their life be themselves and then maybe non retarded society might accept them

So I saw that History gangland special…what a joke. YOUR MUSIC SUCKS AND YOU CAN’T DANCE. For those who know about real slam-dancing (not moshing), you need some style, gotta know how to move. The occasional push or elbow, no big deal. ANY STRANGER FALLS DOWN YOU PICK HIM UP, THATS PUNK ROCK. A SNAPPER is someone who doesn’t understand the rules, resorts to serious violence, then usually gets fucked up. FSU is just an organized group of snappers. I saw the rules of the pit deteriorate over the years. Hardcore faggots try to mimic the apparent violence they saw at their big brothers’ real hardcore punk shows. PUNKS CAN DANCE. HARDCORE IS VIOLENT NONSENSE. YOU PEOPLE ALONG WITH CRUSTIES AND EMOS HAVE TOTALLY DESTROYED rock. Fling your arms around like that at an LA gig and find out what happens.ITS SLAM”DANCING” MORONS.

As for the gangsta shit, SGV UNITY owns the LA county scene. Been fighting Nazis since before SHARP even existed, so what if a little pot on the side. Fuck straight edge. REAL STYLE, REAL PUNK ROCK GANGSTAS. SGV Unity is affiliated with some major chicano gangs like EMF and Puente13. Soon enough FSU will be green lighted. If I were you, I’d not identify with FSU in LA. These SHARPS are basically cholos and will shoot you in the parking lot just like 100s of Nazis. To be sure UNITY is also known as snappers that once stood for something. At any rate I propose real punk gangstas from SoCal…GREEN LIGHT ON FSU.

  6. Concerned Mom says:

This whole subject makes me sad. Im from the OLD hardcore scene. My 16 yr old son is following in my footsteps. How sad, that I am afraid of letting my very talented and expression filled son be a part of a scene that once was something SO different. Grow up people. Your insecurity and feelings of inferiority have kept you from your potential. I am speaking to those supporting FSU of course.

  7. 23456 says:

Shit let the racists be racists let the pot heads be pot heads let the drunks be drunks.
Sure it’s no good for some bone head to go around beating up minorities, but it’s equally as bad for some FSU failures to go around picking fights with people who don’t give a fuck about them in the first place. Just because this pathetic “gang” is on some ego trip doesn’t mean they have any actual reason to be.

We’ve all established that they’re a bunch of pussies anyways.

Tuckerton couple fights for indictment in grandson’s beating death
    Press of Atlantic City.com
    November 6, 2008

Prosecutor says group linked to case, Friends Stand United, is not a gang; ‘Gangland’ show will feature slaying, former suspect, FSU

TUCKERTON – On a wooden table covered with a flowered tablecloth in the small kitchen of Carol Zemartis’ home on Green Street are photos of the man who was once charged with murdering her grandson in 2007.

The man, tattoo artist Alexander J. Franklin, of Brooklyn, is no longer facing those charges, after a Monmouth County grand jury refused to indict him in February.

But Carol and Charlie Zemartis say they haven’t given up their pursuit of justice for their grandson. The court documents, police reports and newspaper clippings strewn across their kitchen table attests to their fervor.

Carol Zemartis picked up a photograph.

“Look at these people,” Zemartis said, her voice quivering in anger. She’s scrawled names under the photographs. She said she and her husband have done their research about the group, known as Friends Stand United, during the last year.

Photographs of Franklin show him posing with other members of the FSU. The Zemartises are waiting to watch an episode today of “Gangland” on the History Channel that will feature the FSU, Franklin and their grandson’s killing. The “Gangland” series takes an inside look at some of America’s most notorious street gangs. The episodes feature exclusive interviews and rarely seen footage – a raw look at life inside these gangs from those who live it and the agencies that are working to stop them, according to the show’s Web site.

“I couldn’t believe it when someone called and said they saw him on TV, and that he was going to be on this show,” said Carol Zemartis.

The couple said the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office botched the case by not stressing Franklin’s gang affiliation. They said they want an indictment on Franklin. The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office did not return a call for comment Thursday.

“They told us that the FSU was not considered a gang, but they are,” Charlie Zemartis said. “To me it looked like paperwork and no grand jury.”

In February 2007, Franklin, now 35, was charged with manslaughter in the death of Morrison, 25, of New Gretna, who died of blunt force trauma to the head outside Club Deep in Asbury Park.

Morrison’s friends told The Press last year that the altercation between Morrison and Franklin was related to a T-shirt worn by one of Morrison’s friends that night at Club Deep, which depicted a confederate flag.

Morrison was asked to leave the club by security personnel and was escorted outside. Once outside the club, Morrison and his friends decided to leave, authorities said.

According to police documents, Morrison’s friends began to walk to the parking lot when Franklin approached Morrison and punched him on the right side of his face and Morrison fell backward, striking his head on the sidewalk. Franklin fled the scene, authorities said. A short time later, Morrison was pronounced dead at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.

A joint investigation by the Asbury Park Police Department and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit led to Franklin’s apprehension and revealed Franklin’s association with the FSU. When Franklin was arrested in February 2007, authorities in Monmouth County issued a news release that stated FSU was responsible for driving out the neo-Nazi presence in the Boston hardcore punk scene of the mid-1980s. The group has grown into a gang of young men who assault people at hardcore rock shows in cities across the country – shows similar to the one Morrison attended Jan. 14, authorities said in the news release.

Morrison’s grandparents said he was not a neo-Nazi or a skinhead.

“How could he be? I mean, we all voted for Obama Tuesday, and if he was alive, he would have, too,” said Charlie Zemartis. “James loved all kinds of people and music. He wasn’t like that.”

When Franklin went up before a Monmouth County grand jury in February, an indictment was not returned, according to a spokesperson for the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.

Authorities in the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office who were handling the case told Morrison’s family that the FSU was not considered a gang, Carol Zemartis said.

“They just told us that there wasn’t enough good solid evidence, and that they couldn’t get an indictment. They told us it was a very complex case,” said Carol Zemartis.

“We were sick when we heard,” she said. “We were told it was an open and shut case, and there were three or four witnesses that saw James being beaten with a metal bar stool. They stomped him and kicked him.”

So the Zemartis reached out to other police, individuals and families of victims who were beaten at the hands of FSU members. What they found has launched their campaign for justice for their grandson.

“We want to know why people from this gang are being convicted in other parts of the country, and Alex Franklin wasn’t even indicted,” said Carol Zemartis.

The couple has reached out to the family of31-year-old Freddie Martucci of Trenton, who was beaten in Philadelphia in 2006, allegedly by FSU members Joseph McKay of Philadelphia and Matthew Leek of Absecon. The two men face a trial in February in Philadelphia County Court on multiple charges, according to court documents.

Freddie’s father, Fred Martucci, said he was surprised when he learned there was no indictment in the Morrison murder. His son, like Morrison, was at a concert and was thrown out of a club and then beaten up outside.

“He was just at a concert, and they started beating on another kid, and Freddie intervened,” Fred Martucci said. “Freddie had a fractured skull, a torn ligament and permanent damage on his finger.”

And another case involving members of the FSU wrapped up on the West Coast just last week. On Oct. 27, three men associated with the FSU were convicted in the 2006 beating of a Corona, Calif., man. Sean Gardhouse, 19, of Corona was beaten in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant in Corona and died five days later, the Press Enterprise in Corona reported last week.

“They’re prosecuting these guys in other places. We just want something done about this gang,” Carol Zemartis said.

  12. Branchout says:

I find it strange that violence has to be a part of anything in the scene beyond the theatrics of the pit. Reactivity is the problem. Violence is not a part of any noble endeavor and gang affiliation is something kids turn to for the same reason they turn to drugs and alcohol. I might even go so far as to say that gangs like FSU are a drug. They offer an escape from your perceived reality of this “fucked up” world and allow something else to think for you. What do you really want out of life? Friends? A gang is more like training wheels for real friends. You might as well hire a long term prostitute. Ideas make us friends and labels keep us from seeing each other as living human beings. Just because you’re afraid of getting your ass kicked or you don’t have positive parental role models doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with you. Be a part of something real and find love in the world. Don’t fight hate with violence. Some racism will only die of old age. You can’t kill an idea even a bad one. You probably know that one. A gang promises you protection and acceptance but will inevitably engulf whatever beautiful identity you may have found on your own.

  13. Duke Duke says:

These guys are just a bunch of retards. The leaders speak like they are brain dead. They have a no drinking policy but beat and kill people instead. What a bunch of losers from the ghettos. Just poor white kids and mud trash. FSU is dead. The Nazi Skinhead population by US stats has tripled in last 2 years. FSU accomplished nothing but going to jail killing people and being common criminals.

  14. kim says:

    Big Dude,

Sorry to inform you but yes FSU does drink, smoke and drugs too!
Good old Travis Westly supposedly of FSU LA was arrested with drugs in his car! A small amount of cash (19,000 give or take) that is now in the courts being seized~

  15. summer allen says:

I think FSU is exactly what this country needs. I live in a small town over ran with drugs and bullshit. I am 27 years old and my life has been a fight from day one. Name it and i have faced it. I have a wonderful 10 year old daughter who is my inspiration. I say fuck society and forever stand FSU. If you’re ever down in Georgia please look me up. I would love to discuss some issues with you guys. I must also say your tunes rock. It’s time to branch out and reach the rural areas. Nothing to lose but every fucking thang to gain. Don’t forget we are waiting for a visit 706-455-7185. Tired of shit in Georgia.

  16. Paul says:

so funny- who knew FSU was as big as it seems… back in 1992 I remember when FSU was basically three men, TALL PAUL, BALDWIN, ROB PEPIORA. of course these giant terrors of the boston hardcore scene had a following of other boston area wannabe tough guys- hence FSU the gang… but there was a time those three owned the title of FSU. and i guarantee- the ONLY reason why an anti-racist sentiment seems to define this gang is because one of the founding members was black- that would be TALL PAUL. TALL PAUL could have beaten anyone in his day… he had that respect… it has nothing to do with a morality… just its forming history as a gang with a black founder… when there were only probably ten people in the gang itself… before bands like BLOOD FOR BLOOD championed their cause in Boston… FSU… i don’t know… some good people associated with FSU… but like any other american gang- bloods, latin kings, etc… people who have no connection to its original formation, or the people who coined the name FSU, unfortunately likely represent the name, FSU more than the original founding principals…

  17. kim says:

Elgin James is the founder of FSU!!! Or so he claims to be?

  18. missmiss says:

ive never seen an fsu fight where the object of the violence didnt do something pretty damn obvious to deserve it. Those guys always backed me up as a bartender. In my experience they stick up for the underdog in a lot of situations, be it by race, gender etc. If you cant hang with the big boys best not to go to hardcore shows. and if you do . . . hold your fucking liquor, dont pinch any asses, start any shit . . . you might find you too are considered a friend.

  19. ESK says:

Just watched a show on DOC channel bout FSU. Interesting. I think it’s time for all the crew to follow the leader and find a lady, get married and live a normal life. Life’s too short to be fighting all the time. Anyways, it was a interesting documentary and I enjoyed watching it.

  32. OiBoy says:

I know some of the older FSU guys. Fat Pat, Bulldog Glen, etc. Hell I knew Nate pre- FSU, Pre- Wrecking Crew. I think that FSU as a crew started with good intentions, and good reasons given the environment at the time, and had some good people but has morphed into something entirely different and that doesn’t in any way reflect its original intent. I’m a non white (obviously anti racist) skinhead, and even disagree with the direction that FSU has gone.

Why can’t The Wretched Ones play any closer than NY without the club getting threats of violence against the bands and venue employees? Why can’t Slap Shot, the band that put Boston “Back On The Map” play in their own home town (or anywhere in New England at all for that matter)? Because of threats of FSU violence. From what I understand The Wretched Ones may have provoked their situation, but still. What did Tesco Vee of the Meatmen do to deserve the on stage beat down and hospitalization that was given to him in Boston a few years back at FSU hands? I’ve seen younger FSU members start fights with (obviously not racist) punk rock kids at shows with nothing to provoke them other than bullying. Most people in the Boston punk scene call FSU Fuck Shows Up, because more often than not that’s what they do these days.

  33. Thecoach says:

Hey, know what’s funny? FSU think they’re tougher than anyone, and then a bunch of Salt Lake guys smash them at the Disembodied show. There are a bunch of Fushu fags in Orem and they get beat up by Salt Lake guys… just saying, you guys are fags, and fuck you.

  37. new london ct says:

FSU is extremely violent and for me to say that does mean a lot. Many people think I am crazy but these guys bring crazy to a whole new level. They are terrorists on what they term suburban and that includes me just because of where i am. None of them know any thing about how I grew or what kind of poverty I dealt with growing up. I have an x that scars my forehead from a brick that was pitched at me like a baseball. (New London, CT El n Gee Club Earth Crisis, Blood for Blood, Diecast, circa 1998.) Why did they do that? Cause I thought they were wrong for cold clocking a girl in her jaw for trying to stop them from killing my brother in law. They didn’t kill him, but if you’ve read much about how things go when they beat on someone it does happen. She was just begging them to stop. He was one of the many victims of that evening. One guy got his jaw wired shut because they didn’t think he was cool enough to look like a skinhead. (Not all skinheads are racist many of FSU are non racist skinheads. And image is important to every skinhead. He was making skinheads look bad. I didn’t like him either but really) One guy got his chest jumped on for being there. I didn’t know and cant recall some of the others. They were targeting people in the pit daring anyone to get involved. All they were trying to accomplish that night was repping their crew in our suburban town. We didn’t deserve to be waving the banner of hardcore. And those guys there that night were the guys that started the crew. I know people that are close friends with them. And they don’t all stand for any one thing except taking their friends back. And they don’t all hang out together either. It’s more like little clicks all under one umbrella. Some of them are straight edge some of them are addicted to heroin “white trash rob”. Some of them are racist and some of them used to be racist and act like they never were. They are all guys that hate to live and want to make this world wish they never witnessed their existence.

One girl I know toured w blood for blood and spent lots of time with senior members of FSU. They have left fraternity type jocks with their brains hanging out of their heads just for thinking that they had any chance of standing up to them. I mean I’ll fuck somebody up but brains out the back of their heads is more than fucking them up. Fuck FSU. But you’re not going to stop it. I know I will never be afraid of what somebody can do to me cause I have already seen the worst short of death. Bottom line is anyone that lives like that is living a worthless life. Nobody wants to be around the kind of trouble that living like that would bring so I know ones they love will leave them for dead and as the crew moves on the individuals living within it truly do hate to live and will see the event of their own destruction. And so term coined so long ago holds true today live by the sword die by the sword.

look get the fuck over yourself both haters and FSU members. the original movement was started as straightedge. it is the militant side of straightedge so [shut the] fuck up. if you drink, smoke or do drugs then your nothing but a pussy gang member and not true FSU. Elgin was the front man for it he was the leader of it and had numerous shots in boston beatdown. boston beatdown was the straightedge kids taking the drugs off of the dealers and addicts and dealing out the justice the cops couldn’t get off their asses to do. they supported charities and bands that promoted straight edge. so fuck off if you can’t stand that they started off as a good thing. but of course faggot fanatics take it too far not understanding what its really all about and we get murders on our hands.

you know who else took things too far? the taliban.

are you FSU guys going to end up like that? blow yourselfs up because you think people don’t follow you? you make me sick to be called straightedge.

and as for you other pussies who say stuff about drinking and smoking pot being alright as long as your not “hurting anyone” you are hurting someone your hurting yourself and your families and friends. your destroying your bodies and your lives for what? getting so fucked up that you feel like shit? or getting so stoned you can’t remember anything? killing millions of brain cells for a couple hours of pleasure you’ll never even remember? your fucking worse than FSU because at least they are doing something thats good. they are taking out the druggies and the dealers.

but also to the FSU guys killing people isn’t worth it. follow Elgins work and beat them up and turn them in. thats what its all about. for more info watch the national geographic documentary inside straightedge. it will tell you the true story.

Just lettin you all know it doesnt take much to talk shit online…i bet if fsu was standing in front of you you wouldnt say shit…I know i wouldnt. As for the fact that you guys talk shit on them bringing a number of ppl to fights life is war get used to it. Call them pussies but its smart. If there is a war you dont see countries caring about how many people the other side brought what makes the cliches we are in today any different.

ive never seen an fsu fight where the object of the violence didnt do something pretty damn obvious to deserve it. Those guys always backed me up as a bartender. In my experience they stick up for the underdog in a lot of situations, be it by race, gender etc. If you cant hang with the big boys best not to go to hardcore shows. and if you do . . . hold your fucking liquor, dont pinch any asses, start any shit . . . you might find you too are considered a friend.”

well you think this because you’re fucking stupid.

BTW if you want to Act like you know about the crew then get your facts right elgin was Called and Called himself the leader because he was the Most senior and Most respected @ the time which was After the ones who started it stopped going out nemore, or became part of the outlaw biker gang. Thats straight from his own mouth and he never wanted to take respect from where it was due with others that were there in the beginning. And it wasnt all of the crew that was straight edge when things were beginning it was some of them. And some of them that are straight edge have been around for a long time. And get the respect of being O.G. in the crew.

And btw if you read what i wrote earlier I Did tell them what i think about them To their face and Knew their rep before i did. And after I took the concrete to the face was only down for about 3 seconds. To know what price you will pay to voice your opinion and still do it is well… stupid but dont talk about balls cuz mine are so big i have to waddle to walk newhere.

And if you know nething about h.c. you know that there r alot of differences among people you meet and alot of times politics kind of wash over when it comes to a common theme which is the preservation of the culture of hardcore itself. If there is one thing that is common among everyone in that crew its that they all stand for the preservation of the culture of hardcore punk rock through all the evolution.

They aren’t trying to kill people when they demonstrate their style. Their just fucking shit up, and well sometimes things get a little crazy.

    Dont Forget the struggle
    Dont Forget the streets
    And Never Forget your ROOTS!

Look I don’t understand why you all are hating on FSU? Think about it the people they commit crimes against are criminals or racist people. How can that be bad cause the police can’t do everything by themselves cause there’s too much going on so a little street justice might also bring down a lot of drug and rape and racism! If you were a woman and being raped they would beat the shit out of that guy or if a guy was being jumped cause he was black he would be helped out immediately because that’s how they are. So they also don’t do drugs or drink so it’s a clean lifestyle too. Now you tell me what’s so bad about that? FSU do your thing and I got mad respect… People don’t understand if they haven’t done anything wrong and don’t **ck with you guys that you guys aren’t out trying to **ck with random people so they have nothing to worry about! **ck the haters!

  47. Disaster says:

A few things… Crews are essential to the hardcore scene. Many people don’t understand the scene. I have been a part of the scene for 18 years. I am a part of a crew. I am not a part of FSU but I know many members of the FSU. They are nice dudes not violent unless they have to [be]. The hardcore scene is violent! It always has been! It has social norms and taboos just like any other society. The people that get “beat down” get offended by something they don’t understand. They often are the first to act violent. Many crews are the ones to defuse the situation normally more violent than what a person would expect that has not grown up in the scene. An example. If you go surfing the first time you go out it is important to stand back and watch. You need to learn about how to call dibs to drop in on a wave. In the surfing community it is easy to find yourself in a fight as well if you break very basic values. The question then is why is it wrong for the FSU to only apply social structure to what they know?

FSU on the West Coast is a joke. Just a title many people have adopted because they couldn’t come up with their own name. FSU is a North East Coast Crew. They are straightedge.

*Caution* if you are hit in the face at a show and you don’t want [to get] jumped do what I do wipe the blood off of your face, and be a man and forget about it. If you don’t like being hit stand out of the way. It’s simple. Be aware of the bands that you are going to see. If they are straight edge don’t smoke or drink that night. Give it up for 4 hours, better that than getting jumped. Come on people the scene is not that hard to figure out.
