A is for anarchy

“Like all really good ideas, Anarchy is pretty simple when you get down to it — human beings are at their very best when they are living free of authority, deciding things among themselves rather than being ordered about. That’s what the word means — ‘Without Government’. A lot of the time most of us know this anyway (though there are a few oddballs in the world who actually enjoy being pushed around), but we also know just how difficult it can usually be doing anything for yourself — if you try you’re likely to break the law or contravene some regulation or other.

But throughout human history people have tried to do just that. To live freely. Sometimes on their own, sometimes in small groups, sometimes in great popular movements…”

Clifford Harper, Anarchy: A Graphic Guide

Speaking of anarchy, it’ll be anarchy on the streets come Saturday December 3rd…

F the system; reclaim the streets!

Why reclaim the streets?

We’re a collective of activists, students and concerned citizens in Melbourne and we came together to organise a ‘reclaim the streets’. The reason for this was a shared feeling that we want get out there as a movement again. We want to show ourselves to the public and our message is simple: “another world is possible!” To do this we will reclaim our public space and turn the streets into a free zone where people can express themselves… the way they feel. We believe that a city should not be owned by corporations and cars, but by the people.

‘Diversity’ is a keyword in this movement and several activist groups and individuals will participate in this parade. We will educate the public about several issues that appear on the activist-agenda by handing out flyers, exposing banners and inviting guest speakers. A second aim is to have fun! Sound systems, (acoustic) bands, decorations, street theatre, cyclists and other creative actions will support the parade to turn this day into a day people won’t forget easily (in a positive way). Within this [lies] another message: activism can be fun! By creating a joyful happening other people on the streets might join the parade, think about our message, or, at least, reveal a smile on their face.

When & where?

Saturday December 3rd @ the Carlton Gardens (next to the fountain) at 12 p.m.

Quote for Ntennis

It will, of course, be said that such a scheme as is set forth here is quite impractical, and goes against human nature. This is perfectly true. It is impractical, and it goes against human nature. This is why it is worth carrying out, and that is why one proposes it. For what is a practical scheme? A practical scheme is either a scheme that is already in existence, or a scheme that could be carried out under existing conditions. But it is exactly the existing conditions that one objects to; and any scheme that could accept these conditions is wrong and foolish. The conditions will be done away with, and human nature will change. The only thing that one really knows about human nature is that it changes. Change is the one quality we can predicate of it. The systems that fail are those that rely on the permanency of human nature, and not on its growth and development.

Rabbit!

Unfuckingbelievable. My midnight stroll. In the middle of the road. A rabbit. Cute as fuck and completely untouchable. A half-hour stand-off punctuated by much preening and anxious (?) circling; even a few quick sniffs of my smelly old Converse sneakers… then home.

I hope the non-existent Goddess looks after you tonight little rabbit.

Working Girls Dance

From the Dept of Back-from-Cloud-9-or-possibly-5, two films by Irwin Allen. No! Dorothy Arzner: Working Girls and Dance, Girl, Dance. As an aside, I don’t care what Eleven says, I still reckon Lucille looks like Meg. Which reminds me(?)… two weeks ago I saw Last Year At Marienbad.

(Just for the record like.)

Global insights 5

Yeah OK so like I went to the launch of Global Insights. Number 5. It was really, really… good. I drank four beers and when I got home I smoked a joint and now I’m really, really… good.

Nuff said.

Slackness abounds

Huh. Over three months.

That’s truly slack.

The Game of War by Andrew Hussey

According to Ken Knabb:

“Andrew Hussey’s The Game of War: The Life and Death of Guy Debord (Jonathan Cape, 2001) is riddled with factual errors. The author’s crude interpretations of Debord’s supposed personal motives are derived primarily from hostile sources and reflect a very superficial understanding of Debord’s project and perspectives.”

Interesting but.
