Very Late News

The Age (May 1, 2006) gossip columnists Suzanne Carbone and Daniel Ziffer obviously have their finger on the pulse of Melbourne… and its Anarchist Club

In the mail

IT’S 120 years ago today that anarchists set up shop in Australia, founding the Melbourne Anarchist Club in a room above splendiferous Her Majesty’s Theatre. Freedom fighter Joe Toscano keeps the flame alight with his Anarchist Media Institute, but disorder is something he doesn’t want in the finances. With debt at $529.40, mainly from dispatching his weekly newsletter, Joe urges sympathisers to send in 50-cent stamps instead of money. “It’s cheaper than sending a cheque or money order,” he told Diary. The best thing about his system is depriving the banks of their fees.

About @ndy

I live in Melbourne, Australia. I like anarchy. I don't like nazis. I enjoy eating pizza and drinking beer. I barrack for the greatest football team on Earth: Collingwood Magpies. The 2024 premiership's a cakewalk for the good old Collingwood.
