Law-talking guy asks Google to reveal zeromeanszero blogger for Ottawa client

OTTAWA — The unknown author of the zeromeanszero blog at zeromeanszero.blogspot.com may soon face litigation if privacy and online reputation management lawyer Brian Bowman has his way.

Bowman, with the Winnipeg firm Pitblado LLP, announced his plan on CFRA radio Thursday afternoon.

He said he is acting on behalf of a anonymous client from Ottawa.

Bowman stressed that his client is definitely not Ottawa Mayor Larry O’Brien, who is often the target of the blog…

Bowman said he has been in discussion with Google Inc., which operates blogspot.com. There is a chance, said Bowman, that Google will shut down the site — with or without a court order — and it might not release the name of the blogger…

Bowman said that if the zeromeanszero blogger’s identity is revealed, it could open the door for a class-action lawsuit on behalf of everyone who thinks they’ve been defamed by the blog.

    Garrido’s life may have been a secret, but his strangeness was there for all to see.

    Last Monday, he marched into the FBI office in San Francisco, leaving behind documents containing rambling passages about religion, mind control and sexual compulsion. The documents, obtained by The Associated Press, do not mention Ms Dugard.

    “I’m a very powerful man,” he later boasted to KCRA-TV, a Sacramento station. “When you get these documents in your hands you are going to fall over.”

    Religion rants had become increasingly common for Garrido. Tim Allen, president of East County Glass and Window Inc, heard them frequently as he came to know Garrido when he bought business cards and letterhead from his printing business.

    He said Garrido once brought a “box” into his shop that he claimed channelled God’s voice. He then opened it and asked “Can you hear?” then spoke as if his voice were God’s. He had a blog, too, claiming to have the ability to speak to people through his mind.

    Mr Allen also recalls Garrido bringing two little blonde girls, who were “clingy”, into his showroom years ago.

    But he said he was unaware of Garrido’s criminal past and felt sorry for him. “You never thought anything bad about the guy,” he says. “He was just kind of nutty.”

    Garrido’s own father, Manuel, has a harsher assessment. He said his son was “absolutely out of his mind” and he traced his problems to a bad motorcycle accident long ago when he went from a “comical, funny” boy to someone who fell in with the wrong crowd and took LSD.

    Garrido’s blog has generated quite a lot of traffic and commentary — much of it uncomplimentary…
