Tricksy ASIO keen to keep the preciousss fires of war burning

Ciaron O’Reilly Questioned by ASIO After Landing in Brisbane on Friday Night
Ploughshares
Monday February 06, 2006

Ciaron O’Reilly arrived in Brisbane, Australia on Friday February 3 after a 30-hour flight from Ireland. He was immediately met by two ASIO agents on disembarking.

Brisbane-born Ciaron is one of the [5] Pit Stop Ploughshares defendants awaiting a third trial in Dublin, Ireland on July 5. Defendants have been allowed to leave the country but are required to return to Ireland a week before the July trial. Ciaron has returned home to Brisbane, Australia to visit family.

Ciaron was placed in a secure room in the airport during the interview. When asked if he had previous dealings with ASIO, he replied “Well, you’re a secret organisation. You tell me if I’ve had dealings with ASIO agents before.”

Ciaron was questioned about his plans during his 3 month stay in Australia [and] the civil disobedience that occured during the Shoalwater “Operation Talisman Sabre” joint US/Australia military exercises in 2005. Ciaron was questioned as to whether he planned to accompany his brother Sean to his Alice Springs late February court date arising from his arrest following a peace demonstration at the CIA/NSA outback base Pine Gap.

References were made to the Pit Stop Ploughshares case in Ireland. Ciaron assured the agents both he and his brother were innocent of all charges awaiting hearing.

After a few jet lagged attempts to tease out the meaning of “security”, “violence/nonviolence”, “terrorism” and “war”, the interview ended.

O’Reilly stated: “We believe security is built on the pursuit of peace and justice through nonviolent action. Security is not secured by shrinking freedoms, crushing civil liberties and harassing peace activists! If ASIO is serious about addressing violence and terrorism it should have investigated the role and arms of the USS Ronald Reagan in Brisbane last week and the ongoing targetting carried out by Pine Gap!”

A S I O

ASIO = Australian Security Intelligence Organisation: spooks, in other words. If that sounds like your kind of thing — any why wouldn’t it be every loyal citizen’s dream? — they’re recruiting like mad at the moment. Better yet: “ASIO is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes applications for employment from all people, regardless of race, religion, gender, marital status, disability or sexual orientation. Selection is on merit and your application must address the relevant selection criteria.” But ssshhh, don’t tell anyone: “If you wish to seek employment with ASIO please note we do not accept unsolicited applications or resumes. Your application must be in response to a specific vacancy advertisement.” Like this one for a ‘Generalist Intelligence Officer’. The winners?

Those who have successfully made it through our recruitment process and become GIOs have a variety of life and work experience. They have included:* Those in the workforce with several years of work experience, including Teachers, Managers, Marine Biologists, Lawyers, Psychologists, Analysts, Investigators, Engineers, Scientists, Nurses, and Social Workers (just to name a few).
* Recent graduates with a couple of years work experience.
* Students in their final year of study at university from a variety of disciplines.

Yes, it’s brains like these that were responsible for deporting Scott Parkin on the basis that he posed a “national security risk”… which suggests to me that if you’re either stupid and/or happy to toe the Government line, you’ll be welcomed into ASIO with open arms.

Oh, and don’t worry too much about having well-developed infiltration skills: the blokes who monitored Subplot in Sydney last August stuck out like dog’s balls. On the other hand… Here’s some advice on ‘What to do if ASIO visit’.

“That’s freedom”

Bill Hicks:

‘Hey buddy, my daddy died for that flag.’

‘Really? I bought mine. Yeah, they sell them at K-Mart and shit.’

‘He died in the Korean War.’

‘Wow, what a coincidence. Mine was made in Korea.’

No one – and I repeat, no one – has ever died for a flag. See, a flag … is just a piece of cloth. They may have died for freedom, which is also the freedom to burn the fuckin’ flag, see. That’s freedom.

“If someone has a go at me I’ll always have a go back”

Caricatures of Mohammed are the same as portraits of Jesus with an erect penis, according to Danish vice prime minister Bendt Bendtsen. Which is interesting, ‘cos Barricade (anarchist) infoshop got busted for obscenity for selling a t-shirt with that image on it all the way back in 1995 (or was it ’96?), along with a pamphlet (Robynski, Nechaev And Bakunin: Left Libertarianism’s Lavender Lineage, Autonomous Tendency, Northcote (Victoria), 1994). Anyway, like the Lebanese TV drama, The Storm Rages Twice.

Art prompts call for flag-burning law change
Reporter: Heather Ewart

KERRY O’BRIEN: The right to freely express an opinion has taken something of a savaging in recent days. Reaction to a Danish newspaper cartoon that mocked the Prophet Mohammed resulted in the burning of Danish embassies in Damascus and Beirut and widespread protests from London to Auckland. The backlash may not have reached Australian shores, but here, the right of a Melbourne artist to express an opinion – in his case, burning an Australian flag and mounting it as an exhibition piece – has landed him in trouble with the law. The flag, which was to have been on display on a billboard outside a Melbourne gallery, lasted just two days before a policeman, claiming to have acted on complaints, removed it. The artist, Azlan McLennan, says he wants it back. The police say they are considering whether to press charges. Legal experts say there is no case. But in Canberra, Federal Government backbencher Bronwyn Bishop has announced her intention to introduce a private members’ bill outlawing the burning of the Australian flag. Heather Ewart reports.

CROWD CHANTS: Save the Australian flag!

AZLAN McLENNAN, ARTIST: We’re living in a particularly paranoid political climate, I think, and things like burning the flag should be a democratic right, not a privilege.

BRONWYN BISHOP, FEDERAL LIBERAL MP: The flag is the symbol of our nation, it’s the symbol of all things we stand for. It’s the symbol under which men and women have fought and died in the past, and under which men and women are fighting today and it’s time we protected it. [While Kerry O’Brien appears to believe that Bishop’s “announcement” is recent, this report claims she announced her intention to introduce a bill to protect her nearest and dearest at a federal Young Liberal conference on January 21.]

PROFESSOR GEORGE WILLIAMS, CONSTITUTIONAL LAWYER, UNIVERSITY OF NSW: Many people would see burning the Australian flag as being an offensive act, but it is an act that is not by itself illegal under Australian law…

An Unnatural Obsession with the Spartacist League?

I’d love to write a more substantial piece on the Spartacist League of Australia, but despite their theoretical commitment to ‘progress’, there doesn’t appear to be much available of their history by way of the Internet. Then again, maybe this is just a reflection of the Spartacists’ overall political marginality? Well, like, whatever; I’m taking a leaf outta bell hooks‘ work on feminism and moving the Spartacists from margin to… some other margin: this one. With that in mind…

FOR THE DEFEAT OF IGNORANCE CONCERNING THE SPARTACIST LEAGUE OF AUSTRALIA – FROM THE NEAR EAST, TO IRELAND, THE CARIBBEAN AND NEW CALEDONIA!

REBUILD THE SPARTACIST-TRAINSPOTTING TENDENCY!

BREAK FROM THE [insert name|s here] LEADERSHIP!

FOR THE WORLD PARTAY OF SOCIALIST REVOLUTION!

The Early Years

The International Communist League (Fourth Internationalist) (ICL/FI) — formerly the international Spartacist tendency (iSt) — was founded in 1964 and is one of scores of Trotskyist ‘internationals’: the ‘Spartacist League of Australia’ is the Australian section. The SLA was founded c. 1974 when ‘Big’ Bill Logan and ‘Mad’ Adaire Hannah — well-known in Auckland as much for their extreme dedication to progressive rock idols Dragon as they were for their fanatical devotion to the teachings of Marx, Engels, Lenin & Trotsky — read the writing on the wall and re-located to Australia a year before their heroes, too, said a sad but expectant farewell to New Zealand’s shores.

(NB: the SLA was actually preceeded by the formation of the New Zealand Spartacist League (NZSL) in 1970. These two groups were known collectively as the SL/ANZ. The Communist Workers’ Group of New Zealand claims that “the NZSL split in 1972 in a dispute between Owen Gager and Bill Logan and Adaire Hannah essentially over joining the SL-US… Gager went on to form the Communist Left of Australia (CLA) in 1974 while Logan and Hannah set up a Spartacist group also in Australia… The CLA split over a tactical difference with Gager in the mid-1980s. Gager left and moved towards anarcho-communism.” In fact, Owen is now a well-known local Melbourne anarchist. As a further aside, it’s worth noting that Raiders of the Left Ark is credited as having been authored by the CLA by this source.)

1975 was a big year for Dragon; so too the Spartacist League: “[a]lways a lightning rod for controversy, [Dragon] was rocked by the heroin-overdose death of [drummer Neil] Storey only weeks after arriving in Australia, and their original manager was also deported back to New Zealand on drugs charges. By then, founding member [Ray] Goodwin had left the group.” While for the Spartacists, “George Foster (deputy National Chairman of the SL/US) visited the SL/ANZ for about three weeks in April 1975”. (Hey, if you knew George Foster like the Spartacists did, you’d agree that this was indeed ‘big news’.)

On a happier note, 1975 also witnessed the release of Dragon’s second album, Scented Gardens for the Blind.

The Seventies

According to the International Bolshevik Tendency, “Bill Logan was the National Chairman of the… (SL/ANZ) from 1972 to 1977. Hannah, then his companion, was the National Secretary. Under their leadership, the SL/ANZ grew from a handful of relatively inexperienced youth into the strongest Spartacist section outside the U.S. In 1977 the couple was transferred to London at the behest of the Spartacist international leadership, where they were instrumental in winning an important layer of cadres from opponent organizations, and launching the Spartacist League/Britain (SL/B).”

Unfortunately, both ‘Big’ Bill Logan [fan, Dragon; member, SLNZ, 1970-; founding National Chairman, SLA/NZ; founding National Chairman, SL/B; founding member of the International Executive Committee of the iSt] and ‘Mad’ Adaire Hannah [fan, Dragon; member, SLNZ, 1970-; founding National Secretary, SLA/NZ; founding National Secretary, SL/B; founding member of the International Executive Committee of the iSt] were both expelled from the iSt. ‘Big’ Bill for “gross moral turpitude” and ‘Mad’ Adaire Hannah for “no stated cause” in 1979.

As for Dragon, the 70s were a crazy decade too:

Storey was replaced by Kerry Jacobsen and between 1975 and 1979, Dragon scored a string of major hits on the Australian pop charts with songs including “April Sun in Cuba,” “Are You Old Enough” and “Still In Love With You” and the albums Sunshine and O Zambezi. There were high hopes of an American breakthrough but these were scuttled by a disastrous American tour, in which Marc Hunter incited an Austin, Texas crowd (calling all Texans “faggots”) and the band had to dodge flying beer bottles. By the time Dragon returned to Australia in 1979 Marc Hunter and Paul Hewson were maintaining heavy-duty heroin habits; around this time the group was reportedly mentioned in evidence given to a major Australian royal commission into drugs, due to their links (as customers) with a major heroin-dealing ring. Marc Hunter was eventually sacked by his brother Todd in 1979, due to his spiralling drug habit, which was by then seriously affecting his performances. A new singer in Richard Lee was recruited and the group recorded the lacklustre Powerplay LP before breaking up in 1979.

Coincidence? I think not.

RaHoWhat?

Let’s face it, David Innes‘ mate Colin Campbell is stark, raving… mad. As a cut snake. As a meat axe. Bananas. He’s a broken packet of biscuits, as ugly as a box of blowflies, and he couldn’t organise a root in a brothel. To be honest, I think he’s got the Darling pea and doesn’t know if it’s Pitt street or Christmas. Then again, with an ideology that handles like a dog on lino, it’s no wonder he’s got kangaroos loose in the top paddock. Or to put it another way: the lights are on but nobody’s home (the mystery bag that passes for his brain is empty) and consequently he feels like a pork chop in a synagogue. And despite this bloke not being the full quid / a snag short of a barbie / a couple of tinnies short of a slab, he still claims to be as proud as a rat with a gold tooth! Personally, I think he’s got tickets on himself, and posing in front of a German WWII Navy flag with the swastika ‘cleverly’ replaced by a symbol for his daft ‘church’ only confirms it.

In short: Colin Campbell is a wanker.

Responding to a JJJ journalist’s requests for an interview, Campbell (December 14, 2005) seized the opportunity to inform the world that “We [sic] are well aware of Triple J’s attempts to corrupt White Australian youth with promotion of the drug culture, homosexuality, multiculturalism, and the self hating guilt of being White…. [I have] absolutely no interest in doing any interviews with hacks from jew oriented Triple J.”

[Ah! Now we know why it’s called J J J!]

Most recently, in response to a number of articles in the Advertiser [Police to examine the law, Authorities investigate Adelaide website, We will survive: racist group] Campbell — or, as Campbell insists his mother addresses him when he’s off playing war-games, the “Reverend Col Campbell 3rd, Komandant WCOTR” — has published a series of rejoinders. In them he coughs and splutters about ‘white guilt’, ‘white pride’, the dangers of ‘miscegenation’ and — yes, you guessed it — more Jewish conspiracies than you can shake a terrorist manual at.

Rather than refute Campbell’s assertions point by point, I’ll summarise his argument: it’s all the Jew’s fault! “The state government and the Adelaide Advertiser, owned by Rupert Murdoch (Fox TV), along with the Jewish Community Council of South Australia, openly colluded in a coordinated libelous attack on the White Crusaders of the RaHoWa! especially and the legally recognised religion of Creativity in general.”

What? You want evidence of this dastardly plot to enslave the White Man? Fortunately, the Colonel has evidence. Mountains of it (and if you ask nicely, the Reverend Patrick “there’s no stopping us” O’Sullivan may even throw in a free set of steak knives!):

1) the Jewish Community Council of South Australia was “involved”. (That is, when asked for comment, JCCSA president Norman Schueler said there was “No room for anti-Semitism in the modern world, let alone virulent anti-Semitism” and “This site is totally beyond the pale and will be totally offensive for Holocaust survivors”).

Read between the lines people!

2) the owner of the Advertiser, Rupert Murdoch, is ‘half-Jewish’.

(Nudge nudge, wink wink.)

3) the articles in question were published on January 31. Coincidence? Ha! Only to the un-initiated…

January 30… [is] the day of the Jewish holiday Rosh Chodesh Sh’vat… it was on Rosh Chodesh Sh’vat, in the fortieth year of wandering in the desert, that Moses began to teach and review the Torah. What lesson from the Torah were they trying to teach this year? Perhaps “It is permitted to kill a Jewish denunciator everywhere. It is permitted to kill him even before he denounces.”

Supposedly, this quote is attributable to “Schuichan Qruch, Choszen Hajpiszpat”, although it may also be found as being attributed to “Schulchan Aruch, Choszen Hamiszpat 388”. One critic claims that:

The quote from Shulc[h]an Aruch applies to killing Jewish heretics. The following line in this passage [states] that this law does not apply to [the non-Jewish population] and [that] it is forbidden to harm any Gentile… Jewish heretics [were then considered to be] a potential cause of harm and trouble to the Jewish nation. The penalty is designed to demonstrate the severity with which heretical views were considered, rather than [constitute] a practical penalty, as such penalties were rarely imposed…

[Given the actual context of the passage in question] a ‘denunciator’ is one who will cause a fellow Jew [undeserved] harm. [In those times,] if a Jew was caught breaking [even] a trivial law, it would likely cause an atrocity or even [wholesale] massacre…; this is the [real] reason for the prohibition [on] denouncing. [In any case,] this law is not accepted in practice…

There now. Don’t you see? How much more evidence do you need that the Jews are planning World Domination?!? (Unsurprisingly, besides being one of the Judeophobe’s favourite misinterpreted quotes, this passage draws from a much wider range of false and misleading interpretations of Jewish sacred texts. You can read more about such fabrications here and here.)

Finally, in addition to being a rampant Judeophobe, Campbell appears to be suffering from the delusory belief that he lives in the USA; the country from which this foreign ‘religion’ is being imported. Thus, in defence of the WCOTR and its place in Australian society, he first quotes from Ben Klassen, and then rants and raves about ‘our’ Constitutional rights.

Earth to Colonel Campbell: i) Ben Klassen did the right thing and committed suicide in 1993, and his so-called Church has, as widely predicted, split in 57 different directions; ii) this is Australia, boofhead, we have a different Constitution and a different set of laws, and iii) there’s more than one Golden Rule.

Klassen committed suicide in 1993 after the death of his wife, by overdosing on sleeping pills. In his suicide note, he made reference to his book The White Man’s Bible, which describes suicide as “an honorable and dignified way to die for any … of a number of reasons, such as having come to the decision that life is no longer worthwhile.”

Bomb-making manual linked to white supremacist group

The ABC reports:

Bomb-making manual linked to white supremacist group

Anti-racism campaigners argue that a bomb-making manual, allegedly linked to a white supremacist website based in Adelaide, breaches anti-terror laws.

The manual contains instructions on how to make explosives and encourages violent attacks on ethnic minorities.

Mat Henderson-Hau from Fight Dem Back says the manual is connected to an Adelaide-based website under Australian Federal Police investigation.

He has reported the manual to the Federal Government’s anti-terror hotline.

“It contains information on how to acquire high power firearms and explosives, [and] essentially says that any and all criminal and violent activities on non-white individuals are fair game,” he said.

NB. Since this and other media attention, Colin Campbell of the White Crusaders of the RaHoWa has removed the ‘White Resistance Manual’ from public view. (Fortunately, copies have been saved.)
