Chase ‘put road users in danger’
Ben Schneiders
The Age
September 9, 2009

A 45-MINUTE car chase across Melbourne during the heated West Gate industrial dispute would have left those being pursued feeling fearful for their safety, having clearly placed them and other road users in danger, a magistrate said yesterday… The case took on political significance after Deputy Prime Minister Julia Gillard used it in June in a controversial speech to the ACTU congress to justify keeping laws that treat building workers differently…

two

There is both debate and difference on display as the Rudd Government honours its election commitment to abolish the Australian Building and Construction Commission and replace it on 1 February 2010 with a new specialist Fair Work body.

But as there is debate and difference, I expect there to be one clear point of unanimity.

Like me, I am sure you were appalled to read of dangerous car chases across Melbourne City involving carloads of balaclava wearing people, criminal damage to vehicles resulting in arrests, threats of physical violence and intimidation of individuals, including damage to a private residence.

The last time I read of balaclavas in an industrial dispute they were being worn by security thugs at the Melbourne waterfront when the MUA fought its history making battle against Patricks and the Liberal Party.

Balaclavas, violence and intimidation must be unreservedly condemned as wrong by every unionist, every ALP member, every decent Australian.

And the Rudd Labor Government will do everything necessary to ensure that we do not see this appalling conduct again.

This is another part of our commitment to fairness and decency at work.

No guarantees over workplace reforms: Rudd

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has backed away from a pledge that no worker would be left worse off by award modernisation, saying that remained the government’s objective but was never a guarantee…

James Hardie, the name, like the company, is a lie. The real James Hardie died a long time ago and had almost no connection to the Australian asbestos empire that grew under his partner Andrew Reid. The Reid family amassed a huge fortune as its asbestos company expanded, killing in its wake thousands of unwitting workers and customers.

Today, Reid′s grandson John Reid is an honoured multi-millionaire, revered for his patronage and philanthropy. He chaired the company for 23 years, and oversaw a strategy that ignored the dangers of asbestos and silenced Australia′s largest asbestos union and government health authorities, concealing Australia′s largest peacetime disaster. Reid mentored his eventual successor, Meredith Hellicar, who defended Hardie′s move offshore until public campaigning by asbestos disease sufferers like Bernie Banton forced the company to adequately provide for its victims.

The councilor comes with his battered old suit
And his head all filled with plans
Says “It’s not for myself, for the fame or wealth
But to help my fellow man”
Fist in the air and the first to stand
When the Internationale plays
Says “We’ll break down the walls of the old Town Hall
And we’ll fight all the lifelong day!”
Ten years later where is he now?
He’s ditched all the old ideas
Milked all the life from the old cash cow
Now he’s got a fine career
Now he’s got a fine career

Racism is the lowest form of stupidity! Islamophobia is the height of common sense! Let’s go Harrow!

…or so say the keyboard warriors of ‘Stop Islamisation Of Europe’ (SIOE) England.

The group, established in late 2007, has chosen to organise a protest outside of a mosque in Harrow, Middlesex (England) on the anniversary of 9/11 — possibly ’cause they reckon Osama bin Laden is hiding in the basement, who knows? (Renowned for his hide and seek skills even as a small child, bin Laden has in recent years made several pleas to the White House complaining that he must have won the round by now and it should be Barack HUSSEIN O’Bama’s turn to hide.) The 9/11 protest follows hot on the heels of an anti-Muslim protest in Birmingham, organised by the ‘English Defence League’.

Two blokes called ‘Anders Gravers’ Pedersen and ‘Stephen Gash’ are the group’s spokesmen; Gash is quoted as stating that “We don’t want any more mosques until all this hatred is sorted out” (Organisers pledge peaceful protest, UKPA).

Above : Anders (left) & Stephen (right).

The SIOE (England) website, however [http://sioeengland.wordpress.com/], makes it plain that SIOE’s ambitions are a little bit grander: to eradicate Islam — which is explicitly referred to as being the political equivalent of Nazism — from Europe. Thus:

Islam was thrown back from Europe in 1683
Nazism was defeated in Europe in 1945
Communism was defeated in Europe in 1989

Now Islam, Nazism and Communism are welded together into the new hammer of totalitarianism called NAZISLAM

The UNHOLY TRINITY

At the risk of editorializing, these Muslims are guilty, and must be dealt with in a harsh and brutal fashion. Otherwise, their behavior could incite other Muslims, leading to anarchy of Biblical proportions. [Pause] It’s in Revelation, people!

Of related interest is the site TELL CHILDREN THE TRUTH [http://www.tellthechildrenthetruth.com/], what reckons that before Amin Al Husseini, everything was peaches and cream, beer and skittles.

Read the timelines of TELL CHILDREN THE TRUTH and you will discover that:

Before Amin Al Husseini, there was no Pan-Islamic Jihad against the West and the non-Muslims.
Before Amin Al Husseini, there was no hatred between the Jews and the Arabs.
Why [sic] did Osama Bin Ladin say in his speech on Al Jizira that this Jihad has been lasting for 80 years?
Because 80 years ago, Amin Al Husseini, the man who officialized Islamic hate, declared Holy War on the West and the Jews.
Bin Ladin and many other terror chiefs are only believers in Amin Al Husseini, who have dedicated their life to his ideology.
As you will see in the timelines of TELL CHILDREN THE TRUTH…

Amirite?

Note that SIOE has its origins in the Danish group ‘Stop Islamisering Af Danmark’ (SIAD) [http://www.siad.dk/], which formed in May, 2006, within a year of the publication (September 30, 2005) by Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten of a series of cartoons, some depicting the Prophet Muhammad as a terrorist.

Andrew O’Keefe ~versus~ Dylan Lewis

Yo.

Andrew O’Keefe shines in This Is Your Laugh:

Note to law-talking guys. SatanicAussie writes: “Andrew is one of the biggest fuckwits to appear on aussie tv. One of the most annoying tv hosts of all time.” mgo26: “Sorry, did Andrew O’Keefe do something offensive? I didn’t notice him next to the sheer affront to humanity that is Dylan Fucking Lewis. Knob!” HSDDTS: “Dylan Lewis is a fucking tool.”

DESPITE reportedly paying $25,000 to bury footage of one of its stars stumbling outside of a Melbourne nightclub, the Seven Network was last night forced to air the very clip it hoped would never surface in its nightly news bulletin. Game show host Andrew O’Keefe made the front page of News Limited Sunday tabloids for a drunken episode that saw him stumbling, swearing and lying in the gutter. Reports suggested the Seven Network had paid $25,000 to a bouncer for footage of O’Keefe that was allegedly filmed by teenagers outside the Revolver nightclub in November…

Ooh Aah : Look Who’s Talking Two!

Update (September 10): Ooh Aah Aah Ooh No! US corporation Optus, one of the Kyle & Jackie O’ Show’s major sponsors, has announced it has withdrawn its sponsorship: “We can confirm we have withdrawn all advertising on the Kyle and Jackie O breakfast show effective immediately,” a company spokeswoman said. The deal with Optus, reportedly worth millions to Austereo, has been on shaky ground since Sandilands was suspended last month for broadcasting live a lie detector segment in which a 14-year-old girl revealed she had been raped. At the time the telecommunications giant said it was “appalled” at the stunt and said today it supported Austereo’s swift action in suspending the notorious shock jock. If the trend is generalised, Kyle is fuct. And while the Jewnited States would seem to be a more profitable location from which to be, act, and sound like a complete and utter dickhead — and get paid handsomely for it — Kyle’s crack about the concentration camps may well have closed the doors on Hollywood. Kyle may be an Aussie, but he’s no Mel Gibson.

Update : For all the latest news and views on Kyle and Jackie O, rape, and concentration camps, see : Kyle and Jackie O on Twitter. ” Australia’s #1 radio show who always get into trouble coz of what they say on twitter! U were warned 🙂 ” Tee hee! (NB. Kyle & Jackie have 367,807 followers — I have 24!)

Ooh Aah : Kyle Sandilands is ace!

Put Magda ‘in concentration camp’, says Kyle Sandilands.

Oops, says Kyle Sandilands.

What I Want To Hear

So you tell me that your last good dollar is gone
and you say that your pockets are bare
And you tell me that your clothes are tattered and torn
and nobody seems to care

Now don’t tell me your troubles
no I don’t have the time to spare
But if you want to get together and fight
good buddy that’s what I want to hear

And you tell me that your job was taken away
by a big ol’ greasy machine
And you tell me that you don’t collect no more pay
and your belly is growing lean

Now if I had the jobs to give
you know I’d give them all away
But don’t waste your breath calling out my name
if you don’t have nothing to say

And you tell me that you don’t have nothing to do
and you keep on wasting your time
And you say when you want to get your family some food
you gotta stand in a relief line

Now it’s a sin and a bloody shame
’bout the way they’re pushing you ’round
But when you decide not to take no more
you know I’ll put my money down

‘Cause I’ve seen your kind many times before
And I’ll see ’em many times again
Oh but every bad thing that’s happened to you
has happened to better men

So don’t explain that you’ve lost your way
that you’ve got no place to go
You’ve got a hand and a voice and you’re not alone
brother that’s all you need to know

And if you’re still wondering what I’m trying to say
let me tell you what it’s all about
Now nobody listens to a single man
when he’s walkin’ ’round down and out

So if you’re looking for an answer
he’s standing there by your side
And you’ll never really know how far you’ll go
’til you join together and try

Van Jones… the anarchist.

Glenn Beck is awesome and totally kicks arse.

On August 11, on Faux News, he claimed that some law-talking guy called Van Jones “was a black nationalist. He came out an anarchist and a communist. He then found the green movement was the new red. And now, he’s our green jobs czar. Why is there so much money from the green movement, fund for public interest?”

Terrific questions Glenn. As for Van Jones, he’s a friend of the trees, the birds and the bees.

And Communists! A boofhead writes to a US newspaper:

The most disgusting evidence of President Obama’s lack of respect for America is his appointment of Van Jones as his “green jobs” czar.

Here’s how the East Bay Express newspaper described the “green jobs czar’s” background in a 2005 profile [The New Face of Environmentalism, Eliza Strickland, November 2, 2005]:

“Jones had planned to move to Washington, D.C., and had already landed a job and an apartment there. But in jail, he said, ‘I met all these young radical people of color – I mean really radical, communists and anarchists. And it was, like, ‘This is what I need to be a part of.’ Although he already had a plane ticket, he decided to stay in San Francisco. ‘I spent the next 10 years of my life working with a lot of those people I met in jail, trying to be a revolutionary.’ In the months that followed, he let go of any lingering thoughts that he might fit in with the status quo. . . . ‘By August, I was a communist’.”

Now he’s a member of the Obama administration, one of the “czars” appointed by Obama who reports only to Obama and who, therefore, never had to withstand the rigors of a Senate confirmation process.

These are dangerous times. We’ve always known that communists were committed to the destruction of America. It would appear that they have the ultimate ally in the White House.

Not any more.

The Resignation of Van Jones: An Obama Political Achilles Heel, Exposed, Foster Kamer, Gawker, September 6, 2009:

Apparently, all that needs to happen to provoke a White House Administration official’s resignation is: a bunch of blowhards and crazies find something someone once said that was once extreme. Fixate, extrapolate, instigate, bring mainstream. And Van Jones resigned yesterday…

Still can’t find any evidence Van Jones was an anarchist but — tho’, by his own confession, he read far too many books.

German Defence League

While several hundred über-patriotic football hooligans assembled at pubs, on the streets, and on the buses of Birmingham on the weekend, in Dortmund, Germany, 700 neo-Nazis occupied a parking lot.

Sieg heil!

The German patriots had wanted to goosestep through the city but the German courts said —

— so the Master Race had to be content with hiding behind masses of police (Verletzte bei Protesten gegen Neonaziversammlung in Dortmund, AFP). As is usually the case, there was some argy-bargy between antifa and police, a few injuries, hundreds of arrests, and the neo-Nazis were able to go home safely to prepare for the next occasion they require a police escort. (And piss-all coverage in the English-language press.)

On May Day this year, ‘autonomous’ nationalists attacked a trade union rally in the city, while a German police officer was — gasp! — caught on video helping defend the rally by kicking a unionist in the head while he lay prostrate on the ground.

Bonus!

Antifa in Germany have produced a new (to me) video: Uno Di Noi: Ein Antifaschistisches Graffiti In Bochum. It documents the construction of a mural in Bochum, made in order to commemorate the murder by neo-Nazis of seven anti-fascist yoof:

Jan Kučera (18, Prague, Czech Republic, January 18, 2008)
Fedor Filatov (27, Moscow, Russia, October 10, 2008)
Carlos Javier Palomino (16, Madrid, Spain, November 11, 2007)
Davide Cesare “Dax” (26, Milan, Italy, March 16, 2003)
Renato Biagetti (26, Rome, Italy, August 28, 2006)
Timur Kacharava (20, St. Petersburg, Russia, November 13, 2005)
Thomas Schulz (31, Dortmund, Germany, March 28, 2005)

It kicks arse.

It may also be usefully contrasted with the attitudes of some locals.

Speaking of which, this Saturday, September 12, boneheads from Australia and New Zealand will be gathering in Melbourne, as they have done for the last 15 years, to commemorate the death in 1993 of Ian Stuart Donaldson, a pioneer — along with similarly dead bonehead Nicky Crane — of the neo-Nazi muzak industry. The boneheads will be hoping that this year’s gathering will be more successful than their last, abortive attempt at organising a gig in Perth, WA, to celebrate the deaths of Australian and New Zealand soldiers in WWII (a failure apparently being blamed on former Skrewdriver member turned refrigerator repairman Murray Holmes, the B&H rep in WA). Some of the flavour of the gathering may be obtained through looking at the antics of racist fruitcakes in Frankston and fascist nutcases in Footscray, as well as the previous history of such events.

Two weeks later, fascists will be gathering in Sydney for the ‘Sydney Forum’, where the MC will be former NPD activist Welf Herfurth now, inter alia, an organiser with Volksfront Australia. Moaron that later.

English Defence League

What do they know of England who only England know?

In the English city of Birmingham over the weekend, several hundred members of the League of Gentlemen kept busy defending England from Muslim hordes (Birmingham Santiago Melbourne, September 6, 2009). In the aftermath:

“BUSINESS AS USUAL”, The Stirrer, September 6, 2009: More than 30 [90] arrests, countless innocent citizens terrorised, dozens of traders facing drastically reduced takings. The grim statistics of another visit to Birmingham by the English Defence League on a day the police promised would be “business as usual”.

Upcoming fixtures on the EDL calendar include a protest outside Harrow mosque on September 11, a(nother) march in Luton on September 19, and a visit to Madchester on October 10. Well, were to include: seig heiling in front of the Harrow mosque has been /\CANCELLED/\ according to the EDL website:

Anti-Islamic activism in Australia has taken a more laid-back form to date, at least insofar as organised, public demonstrations are concerned (that is, leaving aside state and corporate propaganda, numerous but generally isolated incidents of abuse and harassment of presumed Muslims on the streets, and so on). In fact, one of the more comical events was the attempt by some locals in Melbourne to organise chicks in bikinis to march on a mosque in Brunswick — it was fail, but provides an amusing contrast to imgs of pale young Englishmen in polo shirts. Otherwise, while groups like the Australian Protectionist Party have been doing their best to capitalise on anti-Islamic feeling, they have not been able to generate much steam. This is also the case with the Melbourne-based fascist groupuscule ‘Nationalist Alternative’, which joined with Barbara Johnstone and other locals involved in the ‘Newport West Action Group’ (NWAG) to oppose the construction of a mosque in Newport.

I am part of some giant conspiracy to destroy the West, one of Osama bin Ladin’ s henchmen. I am part of the Muslim Question’ (Once Were Radicals: My years as a teenage Islamo-fascist, Allen & Unwin, 2009).
Starting point for a Muslim conversation, Shakira Hussein, The Australian, September 1, 2007 (Review of People Like Us, Waleed Aly, Picador, 2007):

…Aly’s conclusion is titled “Seeking the human”, but the human is oddly absent from this book, which instead inhabits a world of media, survey results and texts. There is undoubtedly value in taking some of the international analysis and framing it in an Australian context. But it is important to do this in such a way as to make it sound fresh and vigorous. There is no freshness in Aly observing that the ambition of radical Islamists to “remake the human condition” is shared with “Lenin, Bakunin, Marx, Mao and Fukuyama”, not when John Gray (listed in the notes on sources but not cited in the text) has written about those who believe that they can remake the human condition: “the new world envisaged by al-Qa’ida is no different from the fantasies projected by Marx and Bakunin, by Lenin and Mao, and by the neo-liberal evangelists who so recently announced the end of history” (a reference to Fukuyama). It is depressing to read Aly talk about the parallels between the planned attack on the Greenwich observatory in Joseph Conrad’s The Secret Agent and al-Qa’ida’s attack on the World Trade Centre when this, too, is a parallel that Gray has already made…

“Depressing”, that is, if it weren’t absolutely fucking uniform for the (mis-)educated middle class. Free Rata, Tadej, Ivan, Sanja and Nicola!

In Belgrade, Serbia, five anarchists — Ratibor Trivunac (28), Tadej Kurepa (24), Ivan Vulović (24), Sanja Đokić (19) and Nikola Mitrović (29) — have been arrested and charged with the crime of ‘international terrorism’ by Serbian authorities. (Another person, Ivan Savić (25), is wanted by police but remains ‘at large’.) Police accuse the six of throwing five Molotov cocktails at the Greek Embassy in Belgrade on August 25 — an action later claimed on behalf of a previously-unknown group called “Black Elijah” (?). The group stated that the action was taken in solidarity with Greek anarchist Thodoros Iliopoulos, until recently on a hunger strike in a Greek prison, one of the last of the individuals arrested as a result of the uprisings in Greece in December 2008. (Note that protest and resistance continues in Greece, as do attempts by authorities to repress dissent: the blog After the Greek Riots provides an excellent source of infos in English.)

All six of those identified by authorities appear to be members of the anarcho-syndicalist group ‘Anarhosindikalističke inicijative’ (ASI), a member of the anarcho-syndicalist international, the International Workers’ Association (AIT-IWA). Further, the ASI has been functioning as the IWA Secretariat for the previous few years, and one of those arrested, Ratibor Trivunac, as its General Secretary.

All five are currently being detained for a period of 30 days while police, presumably, assemble the case against them — such as it is. The accused deny the charges, and the ASI have stated that the group’s focus is upon (re-)building a radical labour movement in Serbia, not throwing stuff at Embassies.

The Serbian state has no official representation in Melbourne; the Embassy is located in Canberra, and there is a Consulate in Sydney.

More generally, while the ‘ideological state apparatus’ has almost invariably regarded ‘anarchism’ as being synonymous with ‘terrorism’ (see : ‘Daggers, Rifles and Dynamite: Anarchist Terrorism In Nineteenth Century Europe’, Terrorism and Political Violence, Vol.16, No.1, Spring 2004, pp.116-153 for background and Nightmares of Anarchy: Language and Cultural Change, 1870-1914, William M. Phillips, Bucknell University Press, 2004 on the early evolution of this propaganda, especially in North America), the War On Terror™ has provided a very useful political context in which to further extend already routine, and occasionally violent, repression of ‘progressive’ social movements in the West. (Violence and repression which forms a routine part of daily life in the Majority World/Global South.)

Protest zbog hapšenja anarhista
Blic Online
September 6, 2009

    [machinetranslation Serbian -> English]

About 20 supporters Anarhosindikalističke initiatives gathered today in front of the Faculty of Philosophy to izrazali solidarity with the arrested for the attack on the Greek Embassy and requested their release.

One of the members of these initiatives Milan Stojanovic told reporters that the five arrested on charges of international terrorism, the four members of the initiative. He said that the methods used in the attack on the embassy are methods and initiatives that do not believe that their members do.

Gathered at the protest spread a banner on which was written “not pass”.

The protest was read and declarations in which according to the accused for burning the U.S. Embassy 21st February “is not passed with such a sharp qualifications for which they are charged for throwing five [Molotov] cocktails at the embassy”. It adds that they “charged with international terrorism is criminal law in Serbia in the same group with genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes against the civilian population, organizing and encouraging to commit genocide” and the like.

Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said earlier today the police arrested the suspects for the attack on the building of the Greek Embassy in Belgrade on the basis of evidence and no reason why anyone protest. Regarding the protests on the occasion of the arrest, he told reporters that “everyone has the right to be anything like it or not, or to protest, but no one has the right to cast a ‘[Molotov] cocktails’ at the embassy”.

Dacic the SAJ base in Batajnica said that the police is ready to admit that a mistake if the court proceedings show that is so.

Police arrested two days ago five suspected Molotov cocktail attack on the building of the Embassy of Greece in Belgrade.

Anarhosindikalne activists were arrested initiatives Ratibor Trivunac (28), Tadej Kurepa (24), Ivan Vulovic (24), Sanja Djokic (19), Nikola Mitrovic (29) while also suspect Ivan Savic (25) on the run.

“Investigative judge of the District Court in Belgrade launched the investigation and detention up to 30 days petočlanoj group osumnjičenoj attack on the building of the Embassy of Greece in Belgrade”, said yesterday that court potparolka Ivana Ramic said and added that the suspects detention determined by the existence of risk to stay at large could influence the witnesses.

Why Kostunica Incitement is not processed due to burning of the U.S. Embassy asks the lawyer ASI after the detention of their members for suspected international terrorists

It is absurd that the members of Anarcho-sindikalističke Initiative (ASI) lie in custody on suspicion of committing a crime “international terrorism”, without consequences for the building of the Greek Embassy, while the ignition U.S. embassy, and one death during the protest “Kosovo is Serbia”, the man was suspected of “hard work against general security,” the statement evaluates to fight lawyer Dragoljub Todorovic.

After a night attack Molotov cocktails, burning bottles with gasoline, the Greek Embassy in Belgrade on 25 August, which took over the responsibility is unknown anarchist organization “Black Elijah”, in Belgrade activists were arrested ASI Ratibor Trivunac (28), Tadej Kurepa (24), Ivan Vulovic (24), Sanja Djokic (19) and Nikola Mitrovic (29) , while Ivan Savic (25) on the run.

Unknown anarchist group “Black Elijah” demanded the release of anarchists Todorisa Iliopolusa, arrested in Athens.

“It is interesting that the part called ‘international terrorism’ going consequences, and that the embassy remained whole, the work done at night with the apparent intention of the victims not, and that is still not known witnesses. In the same country, as public prosecutor’s office has not insisted on prosecuting the Prime Minister (Vojislav Koštunica) is huškao the burning of the U.S. Embassy, “explained Todorovic representing Ratibora Trivunca.

Trivunac, who now defend the silence, was detained in custody in order not to influence witnesses of which, says Todorovic, none known.

“It is, therefore, retained in custody in order not to influence potential witnesses, which is more absurd, because one can not affect any possible witnesses,” said Todorovic, which appealed the decision of the investigating judge of the District Court in Belgrade to arrest members of ASI for thirty days, imposed on September 4.

Reminiscence work, Milan Zivanovic, against whom the District Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade 10th April this year filed an indictment because of the suspicion that with more unknown persons involved in burning the American Embassy in Belgrade, after a peaceful protest “Kosovo is Serbia” in downtown 21st February 2008. year, with defending freedom, and the burden he placed a crime “against the hard work of general security” because, along with several unknown persons caused a fire at the U.S. Embassy and brought life in danger. On this occasion, hurt Zoran Vujovic (20) from Novi Sad.

Members and supporters of Anarcho-sindikalističke Initiatives, international association of workers, based in Belgrade, as previously announced, yesterday protested in front of the Faculty of Philosophy in solidarity with the arrested members because they believe that their comrades are not responsible for what is charged.

A little before the announced anarchist protest Listed in police minister Ivica Dacic, said that police arrested the suspects for the attack, “Molotov cocktails” at the Greek embassy building in Belgrade on the basis of evidence and no reason why anyone protest.

Birmingham Santiago Melbourne

Lots of twisting and turning around the world: in Birmingham, in Santiago, and in Melbourne.

In Birmingham, the League of Gentlemen have been busy defending England from Muslim hordes. The Gentlemen deny being racist, or fascist, or right-wing —

[Lady] Leisha Brookes, from the EDL, said: “We are p[r]otesting against Sharia Law and the acceptance by our Government of Islamic extremism. It is unfortunate that it has come to this but we are a [multi] faith group who are just trying to protest against extremism.” She insisted that she did not want to see any violence and that the group were not fascists.

— but others appear to disagree.

From this distance, it seems that the EDL consists largely of what Mick Armstrong (of the Trotskyist group Socialist Alternative) labeled some G20 protesters in Melbourne as being: football hooligans. Further, patriotic football hooligans, pissed-off at what they believe are the presence of too many Islamic mentalists in cities like Birmingham (and Luton and London and Manchester and…).

The League was kick-started in March, in response to the antics of some mentalists at a homecoming parade of British soldiers (Muslim protest at Luton Army parade was ‘upsetting’, says senior officer, Daily Telegraph, March 11, 2009). Later, the same ‘Extremists behind anti-war protest driven off the streets by moderate Muslims’ (Norfolk Unity/Daily Mail, May 29, 2009).

In Santiago, crazy kids have commemorated the election of Salvador Allende in 1973 by throwing stuff:

36 years ago, on September 11 from 1973, a coup coordinated in the US and made in Chile started 17 years of dictatorship. During that time, several people was assassinated because their political beliefs. After 1990, the elected presidents were back… and the [government] alliance has the executive power since then. After almost 20 years of self-called democracy, we have been seeing several people dying too, and most of the social struggles tried to but [shut] down by police and media. After this 20 years we haven’t been able to find social justice, and even the crimes against [C]hilean people during the dictatorship are not been taking seriously by the state.

20 years is just too much time…

In Melbourne, I and over 80,000 others attended a rather poor demonstration of Australian Rules football, conducted by St Kilda, but mostly by Collingwood. Very disappointing, but hopefully not to be repeated next Caturday when (the) Magpies meet (the) Crows.

Collingwood will limp into a sudden-death AFL final against Adelaide next weekend without star onballer Scott Pendlebury and veteran forward Anthony Rocca – both of whom have suffered likely season-ending injuries.

In other bad news, an oil spill off the Kimberley coast. Sea birds, turtles and sea snakes are not happy, but fish are largely unaffected.

All understand the price of progress.

Presumably.
