MUFF 777

For the seventh year in a row, Richard Wolstencroft — fascist twat and Director-for-Life of the Melbourne Underground Film Festival (MUFF) — is back. Again. With yet more ‘underground’ films to entertain Melbourne’s undiscerning yuppies; although, interestingly, with noticeably less fanfare than in previous years.

Reading Wolstencroft’s ‘Director’s Statement’ reveals him to be not only narcissistic (indeed, massaging Wolstencroft’s ego appears to be the Festival’s main — and perhaps only real — purpose), but a supremely untalented writer, and an even worse thinker. Given these facts, the only real question worth asking of MUFF is: ‘Why do filmmakers bother associating themselves with this Festival, and, by implication, Richard, and his appallingly bad vision?’

Buggered if I know. I just hope that this year Wolstencroft has actually sought and obtained permission to screen — and to make money from screening — other people’s films; something which he singularly failed to do in 2004, when the ‘political’ festival screened films by Mick Duffield and Gee Vaucher…

The Last Word:

Pearls Before Swine—I’ve kind of always distrusted Richard Wolstencroft, filmmaker, Melbourne Underground Film Festival director, and tedious bore, partly because of his avowed fascist tendencies. Now that I’ve paid money for and sat through his fucking film, I just want to beat the cunt senseless.

No Retreat

Trawling the web, I discovered that a bloke called Steve Tilzey has gotten up the noses of some mob calling themselves ‘Aryan Unity’. It seems that these “Aryans” are rather unhappy at the popularity of FC United of Manchester

Well, either that, or they’re hopping mad at the un-popularity of their own idiotic brand of fascist stupidity; so mad that they’re lashing out at all and sundry, but especially those folks who like community football…

Or perhaps the reason this small band of divided descendants of Persia got so upset at Tilzey has something to do with the fact that he wrote a book with a mate, Dave Hann, called it No Retreat, and sub-titled it as being an account of “The Secret War Between Britain’s Anti-Fascists and the Far-Right”.

Unhappy memories, perhaps? Could it be that one of these “Aryans” had the misfortune to attend the Blood & Honour rendezvous in Hyde Park on May 27th, 1989?

Whatever the case, as I’ve been unable to obtain a copy of the book, I can’t really comment on its contents, but the following may give you some idea of what the fuss is all about: ‘Street Fighting Men’ : “Ben Granger talks to Dave Hann and Steve Tilzey, authors of No Retreat, a punchy account of their days fighting neo-Nazis in the North-West of England.” A favourable review of the book is also made available by Irish antifa here.

Just the facts ma’am…

I’ve made a few errors.

Two, in fact.

One : I contradict myself when I claim, first, that fascist sex toy sales-merchant Darrin Hodges has “got a sense of humour… which I imagine is quite a plus if you’re a neo-Nazi and you look like Hodges does”; then, a few paragraphs later, write that a sense of humour is something “that Hodges sadly lacks”.

Two : In my old blog I write that the Black Uhlans were “happy to lend [their] support to the struggle to free unionist (and Trinity Grammar graduate) Craig Johnston in 2004, as well to do what [they] could to help put an end to racial violence in Cronulla last year…”. While the Black Uhlans were indeed happy to lend their support to the campaign to free Craig Johnston, it was the Comancheros what sat down with the Bra Boys in the Cronulla aftermath.

(Oh yeah, the Boys are making a documentary about themselves.)

There are no other errors of fact on this blog… unless you, dear reader, can point them out to me…

RIP Dan and Spit

On July 4, 1998, two skinheads — Lin “Spit” Newborn, 24, and Dan Shersty, 20 — were murdered by boneheads in the rocky desert northwest of Las Vegas, USA. Their crime, like that of Maciek D., was to be effective in the fight against racism and fascism.

The only person to be convicted of their murders, John Edward Butler, was initially sentenced to death for the crime in 2001, but, after failing in his first attempt in 2002, was eventually successful in winning an appeal against his sentence in 2004. However, prosecutors say that at least four people were involved in the plot to kill Lin and Dan, although so far no others have been charged. Further, “While hate crimes such as the torture of a gay man in Wyoming and the dragging death of an African-American man in Texas have received national attention, the deaths of Lin Newborn and his friend Dan Shersty are chronicled more by friends and activists than the national press”. In fact:

Prosecutors from the Las Vegas district attorney’s office were slow to prosecute the case despite holding the key evidence necessary to try the case only a week after the murders. It was not until after a 500 person Anti-Racist Action protest in the fall of 1998 in John Butler’s neighborhood, and a similar protest in 1999, where activists marched down the Vegas strip distributing information on the case to tourists and demanding the case be prosecuted, that the district attorney acted.

Allegedly, Butler had received money in the past from the Las Vegas police department as a police informant.

Ross Hack, who fled to Europe when he was identified as a suspect two years ago, has never been charged for his involvement in the murder. According to the defense attorney, Ross Hack has been on a “two-year vacation in Europe,” courtesy of his rich father.

Prosecutors say they have no plans to pursue charges against Ross Hack. Melissa Hack also remains uncharged in the case.

Lionel Newborn said his son had told him that he was involved in various organizations that opposed racism.

After the slayings, the father learned with some pride that his son played a leading role in this effort.

“I had no idea that he was involved to the extent that he was,” Lionel Newborn said. “I probably wouldn’t have been able to sleep at night.”

Responding to DreamHost and Redwatch

I received the following comment inre DreamHost’s hosting of Redwatch from a bloke called Brad, and decided that I may as well post my reply here.

I saw a comment that you posted on Direland about the Polish redwatch site being hosted by DreamHost. I am currently hosted by them and was wondering if you had any more information about what action I might take to try to change this situation. If you could be of any assistance, I would like to discuss it on my site and let other people that use DreamHost know what we can do.

Thank you.

Brad

Hi Brad,

Thanks for getting in touch.

At present, DreamHost is indeed the host for redwatch.info — the Polish version of Redwatch. Thus far, DreamHost’s position has been that the company supports ‘free speech’, that (as far as they’re concerned anyway) the content of the site breaks no US law and, as such, Polish neo-Nazis can continue to enjoy the services DreamHost provides them.

I would suggest, to begin with, that you write to DreamHost and inform them of your concerns.

DreamHost may be reached via:

They also have a forum in which this topic has been discussed and to which you may like to add your own two cents worth.

Writing to DreamHost will most likely generate a response along the following lines:

DreamHost strongly believes in the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States, which guarantees its citizens freedom of speech and freedom of the press, among other things (both of which can apply to websites). We made a business decision long ago to value freedom of speech above any potential offense someone might take over the content of a site hosted by us.

In other words, DreamHost believes (or pretends to believe) that redwatch.info is merely a forum for ‘offensive’ views, rather than an instrument that has been used to provide personal information regarding individuals who have later been targetted for assault and/or murder by members of the local neo-Nazi milieu. Polish authorities have stated that, as the site is hosted in the US, they require the co-operation of US authorities in order to take any further action.

The position DreamHost has taken is, from my perspective, unethical. From a legal perspective, it is, at the least, questionable, as DreamHost may be in violation of Californian laws inre ‘hate speech’ and ‘hate crimes’. Specifically, DreamHost could be prosecuted as an associated party to a crime under Sections 422.6 and 422.55 of the California penal code against hate crimes.

In relation to DreamHost’s alleged criminality, one person has commented on the forum listed above:

…DreamHost’s clients (of the redwatch.info site) are committing a crime under Section 422.6 of the Californian Penal Code since they are making “speech which itself threatens violence against specific persons”. They risk 12 months prison or a $5000 fine.

DreamHost has a clause about not allowing content which is illegal.

If DreamHost management acts in “good faith” to prevent the continued crime, then they would presumably be able to defend themselves from being convicted as a supporting partner in crime and avoid… having to manage the DreamHost service from inside a prison cell.

Do You Submit? CLASS WAR on Islam

Class War take a critical look at the world’s fastest growing religion

[Source : Class War, #90, Summer 2006, p.7]

    Islam : A History

Islam means ‘submission’. Submission of your whole existence to what your god decrees. It was thought up by the supporters of a seventh century Arabian gangster in order to consolidate their criminal organisation’s hold over the region. It is followed by over a billion people on this planet.

Muhammad was the sixth century equivalent of a travelling salesman or lorry driver. He drove his goods caravan and camel train across the Arabian peninsula, buying and selling cheap trinkets, dates, nuts, spices and fancy goods. He was born on April 20, 570 AD. Like all self-important nouveau-riche types, he embellished his family tree to claim a direct descendance to Abraham, the founder of the Jewish religion, of which Islam is a branch just like Christianity. However, despite the Arabs claiming to have invented arithmetic, Mo’s followers weren’t too clever at sums as his family tree goes back twenty-three generations to Abraham — approximately 2,700 years — meaning each father would had to have sired a baby boy at the age of over one hundred years. What is more plausible is that Muhammad was from a well-to-do business-class family.

Mo was brought up by a Bedouin wet-nurse in the desert, but lost both his parents young. He was raised by his uncle Abu Taib, a big business mogul in Mecca. He was given his own branch of the family business to take care of when he reached manhood. At 25 he married his 40-year-old boss and had some nippers. After she snuffed it, he started going into caves on his own and taking drugs. He was hallucinating all sorts of mad shit, seeing heaven and hell, going on fanciful journeys and even talking to the angel Gabriel! It was his ageing wife, in her late fifties, who first called Mo ‘prophet’. Whether she was humouring him, massaging his tender ego, or just having a laugh is of no matter as Mo decided that he liked the idea of being ‘god’s sole messenger on Earth’. Her cousin was a Christian and backed him up, probably to try and recruit him, but Mo considered himself the prophet, not Jesus.

Mo tried persuading everyone that he was in direct contact with the Judeo-Christian god. Most people ignored him, but gradually he gathered together a bunch of cranks who thought he was the top boy. Mo was frustrated by the Meccans’ adherence to idolatry and multitheism, and his group of hardcore Abrahamists were forced to flee to the Christian kingdom of Ethiopia for refuge. Mo however stayed in Mecca, until his family died, and his funds began to dry up. He then had another bout of bad dreams and hallucinations, this time involving a long journey to Jerusalem, and a discussion with Moses, Abraham and Jesus. He believed that he was the next prophet.

These delusions of grandeur were clearly going to his head, and surrounded like Elvis by a gaggle of yes-men and ‘friends’, he cut off all links with his family and moved to Yathrib, now called Medina. There, he and his gang started a protection-racket, whereby non-gang members, Jews, Christians and multitheists were taxed. Mo’s gang then became highwaymen, holding up caravans from Mecca. This racket grew until these armed thugs constituted his own private army. Many Meccans were murdered in cold blood by the criminals. After one slaughter, in Badr in 624, his flunkies declared their boss to be the son of god, or ‘god father’. All Jews were now expelled from Medina, and the remaining Medinans forced to acknowledge Mo’s rule. Mo, 52, then married his business partner and friend’s six year-old daughter Aisha, who became the third of his twelve wives. It’s a good job the News of the World wasn’t published in those days!

A protracted war broke out between the Medinan gang of Dirty Mo, and the Meccan gang led by Abu Sufyan. After The Battle of the Trench in 627, every Jewish man in the area was beheaded and the women and children raped and enslaved. Three years later Muhammad commanded an army of 10,000 men and forced the city of Mecca to bow to his rule, on pain of death. He now controlled all business in the Arabian peninsular. Mo snuffed it two years later, on June 8, 632, aged 62. Only his daughter Fatima from his first marriage survived him, and he refused to allow a woman to take over his gang.

A feud broke out between his son-in-law, Ali, and his adviser, Abu Bakr as to who should succeed Mo. Ali was defeated, and his supporters became Shi’at Ali (advocates of Ali). Abu Bakr took over Mo’s empire and began waging war against the Bedouins, Persians and the Byzantines.

Over the next two centuries, Dirty Mo’s unique mix of gangsterism and hero worship was forced upon the rest of the region — from north Africa to India, from Turkey to Madagascar. It grew into a ferociously superstitious cult, where any criticism of the legacy of Mo was considered blasphemous and punishable by death. His cult became known as ‘The Submission’ or ‘Islaam’ — and all free will and reason is replaced by the literal living of their lives by the Islamic FAQ, known as the Quran, which spells out the rules and regulations of being a proper Muhammad fan.

His followers are still divided between the Shi’ites (Ali) and the 85% of Moslems who call themselves Sunni. There is a huge tourism industry whereby cult members across the world visit Mecca to throw stones at it, the Haj pilgrimage. Unfortunately this is the point when fanatics tend to get a bit over-excited, resulting in stampedes and others disasters which have “blighted” the Haj in recent years.

All sorts of shit is banned in Muslim countries — homosexuality (punishment: death), masturbation (amputation), communism (death), and adultery, whereby any woman who so much as talks to another man may be punished.

This is the insane, sick belief system defended by liberals, and even some socialists today. Do you submit to it?

Islamic fundamentalists please note: Any fatwas as a result of this article should be sent to:

Robert Manne’s open letter to Andrew Bolt

Robert Manne’s open letter to Andrew Bolt [Dead link: Crikey, June 29, 2006]

Yesterday [28 June] News Limited columnist Andrew Bolt wrote an article [dead link] challenging academic Robert Manne to name ten Aboriginal children who had been removed from their parents as part of the stolen generation. In response Manne wrote this open letter:

Date: 29 June 2006

Dear Andrew,

I am writing formally to renew my invitation to a debate with you on the issue of the stolen generations.

As you are aware, I agreed to debate you on this issue in early 2001 at Readers’ Feast bookshop. At first, you agreed. Shortly afterwards, you pulled out. In one of the encounters we had on radio (in Adelaide) I renewed the offer. On October 30 2002 I renewed it again in a letter to the editor of the Herald Sun. “The one group who would not join in the debate [on In Denial] were the people whose ignorance of Aboriginal history it analysed. Bolt was invited to debate In Denial. At first he accepted the invitation and then pulled out. From my point of view the offer is still open.”

You have provided different explanations for your failure to debate me on this issue. In the Herald Sun on April 2 2001 you quoted an email you sent to me: “I did not want to help you sell your (appalling) books by being a drawcard for your bookselling event. I will, however, debate you in fora which I judge will not assist you financially or in propaganda.” In an email you sent to me on June 26 2006 your story had changed: “We both know the facts of that—that I’d accepted the challenge to debate you over your new book attacking me on the reasonable proviso that I was allowed to read it first, and that I pulled out only because I was never sent the copy I’d asked for. Debates I like. Ambushes I don’t.”

This is complete nonsense. I asked the man who organised the debate, Russ Radcliffe (at the time the manager of Reader’s Feast), to provide an account of what happened. This is what he emailed to me: “After establishing Robert Manne’s willingness to participate [in the debate on the stolen generations], I telephoned Andrew Bolt—he was affable, amused by the prospect, and keen to participate. I subsequently called Bolt on several occasions leaving several messages to confirm the date. He did not reply. When I eventually reached him his tone had changed drastically from the first call. He became irate, saying that he had no intention of helping Manne ‘flog’ his book and he accused me of setting him up in front of an antagonistic audience of lefties. There was absolutely no truth to that accusation.”

My proposal for the debate is this. If the Melbourne Writers’ Festival is willing, I propose a debate similar to the one I had with Keith Windschuttle some two years ago. The format was that we each spoke for 30-40 minutes following which we asked each other questions. After that the audience joined in. The chair was Dr John Hirst, a chair agreeable to both Windschuttle and me. I propose we ask him again. If you are willing to participate in the debate, I would suggest that your publisher approach the Festival on your behalf and that I ask Black Inc. to approach them on mine. As you have recently published a collection of your columns, the Festival might be willing to host the debate. If the Festival is uninterested or if you are unhappy with the Writers’ Festival as the venue, I would be perfectly happy to appear at a forum where you might feel more comfortable, like the Institute of Public Affairs. Naturally I would be happy to debate you at La Trobe University or indeed at some other mutually agreeable venue. As you have referred to the question of the stolen generations in the Herald Sun on at least seventy occasions, and as you have referred to me in defamatory terms in very many of these articles, and as you have caused real pain to many Aboriginal people by your writings on this issue, I believe that you are under a moral obligation to agree to this proposal.

Yesterday I promised to send you some of the names of the “half caste” children who were removed to Yarrabah and to Mapoon by Walter Roth, the Queensland Protector. As I pointed out to you the children were generally given only “Christian” names by the colonial authorities. Here’s a sample: 1901: “Ivy” (8), “Willie” (11), “Walter” (7), “Arthur” (4), “Maria” (13), “Norman Carr” (quadroon, between 2 and 3), “Edie” (10), “Carrie” (6), “Nora Mackenzie” (4), “Annie” (10), “Minnie Cooma” (12), “several children of various ages, dependents of Underwood “, “Annie Noble” (14), “Nellie” (10), “Mary”, “Mabel” and “Daisy”, “Lucy” (10), “Rosie” (8).

1902: “A little Aboriginal girl” (4); “Harry Brown” (12); “Dolly” (about 13); “Dora” (about 10); “Lily” (5); “Flora” ( about 8 ); “Lucy” (11); “Lucy” (12); “Rosie Murray” (about 10); “Lena” (age not stated); “Paddy” (about 7); “Lily” (5); “Jessie” (6); “Sammy Mathers (about 5); “Harry” (12); “Ida” (about 7); “Rosie” (6).

1903: “Billie”, “Norman”, “Topsy” and “Nancy” “four little half-caste children in the blacks’ camp”; “Topsy” ( about 8 ); “Archie” (13); “Maud” (5 or 6); “Maudie” (10); “Jessie” (half-caste little girl”); “Charlie Coates”; “Jock” (4 or 5); “Ada Lyall” (11 or 12) ; “Maggie” (8 or 10); “Walter” (about 14—he’s the case I wrote about in the Quarterly Essay); “Martin” (4); “Minnie” (about 9); “Topsy” (about 6); “Daisy (about 13); “Lucy”, “Georgie” and “Lucy” from Tate; “Rosie” (about 10) and a boy “Davey” from Rifle Creek.

The list goes on and on for later years. I’ll stop at this point. If you want to find more of the same, all you have to do is to find the printed parliamentary papers for Queensland, available at the Borchardt Library at La Trobe University and in the Victorian State Library, I would think.

You say in the Herald Sun that these are names I’ve “now found”. Another untruth. I’ve had the names of many of the children sent to the mission stations of Queensland and to the “half caste” homes in the Northern Territory and Western Australian for several years. Indeed I offered to send a sample of these names to Peter Blunden in an email on November 1 2004 after one of your many attacks (where you said that I could name only 2 stolen children!). He didn’t respond.

Peter Read has seen the files of 5000 stolen children in New South Wales, many of whom were despatched to the Kinchela and Colebrook homes. (See his Rape of the Soul So Profound.) These files have been closed to researchers in recent years. As you are aware, more than 500 removed Aboriginal children gave evidence to the HREOC inquiry. They gave evidence on condition that their names were withheld. In his book, The Lost Children, Peter Read interviewed thirteen removed indigenous children. You can find their names if you bother to read that book. Similarly about half of the indigenous men who committed suicide in prison whose cases were investigated by the Deaths in Custody Royal Commission had been removed from their parents. Their names are available to someone who wants to know. So are the names of some of the removed children who gave testimony to the federal government-funded Oral History project, which led to the book, Many Voices. There are now quite a number of books written by stolen Aboriginal children, like Margaret Tucker’s If Everyone Cared, Rosalie Fraser’s Shadow Lives and John Moriarty’s Saltwater Fella.

By the way, if you’re interested in the question of the number of removals, the ABS study I mentioned on radio is called the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Survey (1994). On the basis of this survey Ron Brunton acknowledged that 12,500 removals had taken place. His figure did not take into account Aboriginal children removed since 1900 who had died before the 1994 survey.

On one small point. You say in your Herald Sun column that Lorna Cubillo was “taken in by missionaries, aged eight, after being abandoned in the bush with no adult looking after her”. This seems so far from what happened and where the evidence led that I’d be obliged if you could point me to your source.

I look forward to your response to the invitation to debate.

Yours sincerely, Robert Manne

Today’s Poll : Do you like champagne?

Carsten Sievers, general manager of the Fresh Paradise grocery, is dubious about all the Robin Hood talk and even more doubtful that any of his store’s delicacies gave pleasure to the palates of Hamburg’s underclass.

“How many poor people will really enjoy a bottle of champagne or a high-value cheese?”

favorite Gewurztraminer

HAMBURG, Germany — It began as a quiet Friday morning at the Fresh Paradise gourmet grocery in this prosperous northern German city. A few well-heeled customers meandered through the aisles, looking for the perfect chevre to pair with their favorite Gewurztraminer.

Manchego cheese

Suddenly, half a dozen costumed superheroes appeared, their shopping baskets filled with prime Kobe beef, Manchego cheese curdled from the milk of Spanish sheep, handmade French chocolates from the Rhone Valley. Some $2,000 worth of fancy groceries darted out of the store before employees realized they’d been robbed by a gang of cartoon characters.

lavender nylon bodysuit

The leader was a skinny person of indeterminate gender, clad head-to-toe in a lavender nylon bodysuit. One accomplice was wrapped in a red costume with a lightning bolt, a la Flash, the comic-book speedster. At least four others wore an assortment of capes, wigs, sunglasses and white gloves, the latter to avoid leaving fingerprints. Waving their stolen booty outside the store, they pranced around and flexed their muscles as yet another partner took pictures.

flowers and a note

Before fleeing, the gang left flowers and a note for the stunned Fresh Paradise cashiers:

“In case you do not know us yet: We are Santa Guevara, Spider Mum, Operaistorix and Multiflex. We are precarious superheroes,” it read, in part. “Without the power of superheroes, there is no chance for survival in this city of millionaires. Although we produce the wealth of Hamburg, we hardly have anything to show for it. It does not have to stay like this.”

helicopter

Police dispatched a dozen squad cars and a helicopter to the area, to no avail. Two months later, no arrests have been made and no suspects identified.
