Colin Ward : August 14, 1924–February 11, 2010

Huh. I didn’t realise until now that UK anarchist Colin Ward has died. His Anarchism: A Very Short Introduction (OUP, 2004) is both very short and quite good, and his appeal as a writer was widespread, his many, generally pithy writings emphasising the practical dimensions of Anarchy in Action. (Revolution by the Book has an extract from Anarchy in Action here; AK Press is also publishing Autonomy, Solidarity, Possibility: The Colin Ward Reader later this year.) In addition to being the author of numerous books and pamphlets, Ward edited Anarchy zine for its first 100 issues (1961–1970), criticised by some as being reflective of anarchism’s absorption by the middle class.

Reverse Racism on Today Tonight

See also : F___ Off I’m On Today Tonight! Or: Reverse racism. (February 16, 2010) | Too late for Labour to stop the BNP, IWCA, February 4, 2010: “New Labour’s sudden concern for the wellbeing of the ‘white working class’ is a product solely of the threat they feel from the BNP. Aside from its cynicism, this move is too little, too late. New Labour made the conscious choice to turn its back on the working class once and for all in 1994. They have sowed the wind, now they will reap the whirlwind…”

Oddly, bizarrely even, presenter Matthew White concludes David Eccleston’s report by saying “if you’d like some more information or you’d like to lodge a complaint you’ll find the relevant details on our website”. And on the website are links to a page on ‘Race Discrimination’ and ‘Lodging your complaint’ on The Australian Human Rights Commission site, a link to the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union (which the brains at TT have presumably confused with the CFMEU), and finally to the Australian Protectionist Party.

Speaking of the APP, and Hodges, he has some cross words for local terrorist Muslim Nazeem Hussain (Nazeem Hussain’s Jihad against white Australians., The Infidel Diaries, February 14, 2010) after Hussain declared a jihad! against White Australians, aka his authorship of an article (True colours, On Line Opinion, February 11, 2010) on the whiteness of commercial TV:

It was not until I returned from a trip to Europe that it dawned on me how white Australian television actually is. It’s an arduous task for me to recall five people on Australian television who are not white. The only people that come to mind are a couple of SBS news readers, and the guy who played the demeaning role of Bingo Commissioner with a ridiculous feigned Indian accent on the failed series of Sunday Night Bingo. Oh … and there are brown people on community TV, if you have reception…

Nick Griffin’s American Renaissance : CANCELLED

Update : AmRen organiser Jared Taylor has once again declared that the conference has been cancelled, following Capitol Skyline Hotel’s apparent decision to withdraw its services from the racist schmucks; Capitol Skyline was, I believe, the third or possibly fourth such hotel to do so. See also : White Supremacist Conference Cancelled, The Mormon Worker, February 18, 2010 | AmRen Canceled – This Time We Really Mean It, The Self-Described Anarchist Collective, February 18, 2010.

Once upon a time, BNP Führer Nick Griffin was going to tour The Colonies.

First, Australia.

That was in late 2008. His tour, scheduled to take place in December and organised by the Australian Protectionist Party (the principal spokesperson for which, Darrin Hodges, was recently a guest on tabloid current affairs show Today Tonight), was eventually postponed cancelled. (A previous tour in 1998 was halted after then-Minister for Immigration and Multicultural Affairs Montgomery Burns refused him entry to the country.)

Secondly — and now — the United States.

Sadly, as in the case of Australia, Griffin’s tour of the former British colony has run into some difficulties.

Thus Griffin was scheduled to speak at the Ninth American Renaissance Conference (2010): Defending the West, joining a range of other Aryan Intellectuals such as ah, Dan Roodt and er, Craig Bodeker and um, Jared Taylor.

Then it got cancelled.

That’s right. Done. Kaput. Finished. Over. CANCELLED! After three months of getting the word out and letting people know that a group of politically connected white supremacists were planning to meet this weekend, American Renaissance editor Jared Taylor threw in the towel, effectively cancelling the American Renaissance Conference 2010…

And then it got re-scheduled. According to the fine folks at One People’s Project: “Despite earlier announcements that they cancelled the American Renaissance Conference, organizers say they have secured another venue, a hotel with a recent history of hosting white supremacists.”

Welcome to the Capitol Skyline Hotel in Washington, DC.

Forget about stuffy, over-designed, boring hotels. The Capitol Skyline is all about being happy, cool, interesting, fun, unpretentious, and comfortable. It’s a place where you can be yourself, see some incredible things, and be around people who are interested in racism, but not victims of it.

The conference is scheduled to take place from February 19. Or thereabouts. At The Capitol Skyline. Maybe.

In any event (or non-event), as a result of this latest fracas, Griffin’s tour of the United States has also been cancelled. Prior to his defence of Western Civilisation at the AmRen conference, on February 18 Griffin was supposed to speak at Kenyon College in Ohio. That event got cancelled. He was also intending to rally to the defence of the Sons of Liberty in Michigan, but that too has been cancelled.

Finally, in response to the re-scheduling of the AmRen conference, some self-described (to be confused with self-styled) anarchists have released a statement ‘Concerning the American Renaissance Conference’ (February 17, 2010). Further, both The Pink Mafia and ZOG have refused to either confirm or deny that Griffin’s difficulties have anything to do with the BNP’s failure to go soft on Uncle Rupert’s employees.

Note that in 2006, disgraced former Macquarie University academic Andrew Fraser addressed the AmRen conference. Born in Canada, he came to Australia on the understanding that it was populated by people with blonde hair and blue eyes. Fraser has also spoken at far right forums in rural NSW (Inverall) and Sydney. “slackbastard is on Facebook”

I’m also on edge… but that’s another story.

So uh, yeah.

And ah, yeah. Gabriel Kuhn has some nice words to say about a book I haven’t read by a man I haven’t met: To Get to the Other Side: A Journey Through Europe and Its Anarchist Movements by Peter Gelderloos.

One day I believe I’ll publish my own collection of short stories: To Get out of Bed in the Morning: A Journey Through Melbourne Armed Only with Bucketfuls of Sickness and Horror in an Otherwise Meaningless Life.

Then again, maybe not.

Er, speaking of tourism, in Greece “Guy Rundle visits the troubled country’s capital to try to find the truth behind the much-caricatured crisis” on behalf of Sp!ked, The Libertarian Bizarros Formerly Known as the Revolutionary Communist Party (February 17, 2010).

And finally, um, for reasons best known to himself, but perhaps related to the recent departure of significant sections of the International Marxist Tendency, Uncle Hugo’s best mate Alan Woods has attacked Bakunin In Defence of Marxism.

Apropos of nothing, have some Weet-Bix Amebix.

‘She’s Like Heroin To Me’

    Q. What’s the hardest part about rollerblading?
    A. Telling your parents that you’re gay.

Following Lindsey German’s decision to resign, a small group of right-wing deviationists have also resigned en masse from the Socialist Workers Party (UK), the largest collection of Ygael Gluckstein‘s followers on the globe.

This is officially A Big Deal in Ye Olde Worlde of Leftist Trainspotting.

The gory details may be found on the Luna17 blog: Why we are resigning from SWP: an open letter, February 16, 2010.

Choice quotes:

An authoritarian internal regime has developed as a result of this change in direction…

The use of disciplinary methods to ‘win’ arguments is completely foreign to the traditions to the SWP and should have no place in the socialist movement.

LOL.

Luna17 also asks ‘We Are Many: where were you seven years ago today?’: ‘today’ being February 15, 2010; seven years since a weekend of worldwide anti-war demonstrations that brought millions of people out onto the streets. In fact, according to the BBC: “Between six and 10 million people are thought to have marched in up to 60 countries over the weekend – the largest demonstrations of their kind since the Vietnam War.”

I was in Melbourne, advocating No War But The Class War. The banner made it on to the front page of The Age, and at some point (on that or a subsequent rally) those responsible for the dastardly act were castigated from the stage for their violent inclinations.

Or something.

Obviously, The Biggest Global Peace Protests Before A War Actually Started™ did not stop the war, which continues, apparently, in a land far, far away…

Well, there’ve always been people going around saying someday the war will end. I say, you can’t be sure the war will ever end. Of course, it may have to pause occasionally–for breath, as it were–it can even meet with an accident–nothing on this earth is perfect–a war of which we could say it left nothing to be desired will probably never exist. A war can come to a sudden halt–from unforeseen causes–you can’t think of everything–a little oversight, and the war’s in the hole, and someone’s got to pull it out again! The someone is the Emperor or the King or the Pope. They’re such friends in need, the war has really nothing to worry about, it can look forward to a prosperous future.

Windisch (not) for Altona

A expected, a law-talking grrl named HENNESSY, Jill has won the by-election in Altona, in a two-and-a-half horse race. WINDISCH, Margarita, the Socialist Alliance candidate, came seventh, trouncing the Independent RIXON, Andrew. “Despite our 1.6% vote the Socialist Alliance campaign in Altona achieved a minor miracle”, candidate Margarita Windisch commented. “It forced the other parties to talk about political issues, especially the ones that matter to the local community”.

Windisch last had a crack at getting into Parliament in 2006, receiving 406 457 first-preference votes or 1.45% 1.46% of the total (and last place).

The Socialist Alliance in Victoria is holding its state conference on February 27.

HENNESSY, Jill’s being bumped into Parliament means, inter alia, that the 25th 31st Nth Century technology being pioneered by RIXON, Andrew, will now never see the light of day.

    2. ROSE, Mark (Liberal) | 13,684 | 35.06%

F___ Off I’m On Today Tonight! Or: Reverse racism.

Pauline Hanson is fleeing to the UK.

It’s disappointing, says The Mad Monk.

LOL.

Meanwhile, Walkley Award-winning former ‘A Current Affair’ turned ‘Today Tonight’ hack David Eccleston has located former meatworker Craig Whitney, CFMEU NSW Secretary Andrew Ferguson, Australian Protectionist Party spokesperson Darrin Hodges and Race Discrimination Commissioner Graeme Innes to provide the over-60s with soundbites on racism — in reverse.

Note that while Pauline ran a fush ‘n’ chup shop prior to landing in Parliament, Darrin was (is?) an online filthmonger.
