War on Clothing #occupymelb #omel

Victoria Police and Melbourne City Council workers narrowly averted a terrorist attack yesterday morning when they were forced to publicly strip a young woman @ OccupyMelb of her clothing, thereby denying another angry violent liar her ”little self-indulgent moment in the sunshine”. According to one professional protester armed with a camera:

The individual in question was part of the Occupy Melbourne protest and was dressed in a protest costume made from a converted tent. The significance of the costume was to [highlight] restrictions placed on protesters staging a 24/7 protest in Flagstaff Gardens.

The protester was surrounded by at least 4 Melbourne City Council officers and 8 Victoria Police officers.

Her movement was restricted by the formation of officers surrounding her and she was subsequently restrained as officers proceeded with aggressively removing her costume.

At each stage she declared that she did not consent or feel comfortable with the actions of the council and police officers, stating that this was a sexual assault. “This is not consensual.”

Her requests and declarations were ignored as officers continued to rip and [jostle] her costume and person. A knife was requested and used by MCC officers as the protest costume was cut from her body. The remaining severed costume was violently torn from her while the protester herself was [discarded], [left] semi-naked and crying on the ground as Victoria Police and MCC officers walked away with the costume.

No effort was made to assess her health or [well-being] after the incident.

I says: if she didn’t want to be stripped in public of her clothing by a large group of armed men and women, she should have stayed at home.

Amirite?

Economic Yearnings of India for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Australia

Demonstrating conclusively that hers is ‘not a political party that shirks hard decisions’ (Julia Gillard), at its national conference this weekend Labor took a bold step and in The National Interest™ approved the sale of uranium to India.

This is obviously doubleplusgood news for the sunburnt country which, with perhaps 1/3 or moar of global uranium reserves, now can has jobs jobs jobs for working families working families working families for at least the next 703,800,000 years or so.

Among those who deserve praise for their courageous defence of the right to sell things is Bennelong Society medallist and former ALP President Warren Mundine. Mundine also happens to be a director of the Australian Uranium Association, “the advocacy body that represents the uranium industry exclusively. We argue for policy change that will let uranium compete on its merits as an energy source appropriate for the needs of the twenty first century.”

The meritorious decision to sell uranium to India has naturally been welcomed by Mundine’s friends in the uranium mining industry, although the Association does sound a warning, noting that sales-wise the corporate sector will be forced to compete with uranium mined in places like Kazakhstan. Thus:

The economic potential of a uranium trade relationship with India is considerable. Based on India’s projected nuclear growth, and Australia’s current share of world uranium exports, Australia could expect to sell around 2,500 tonnes of uranium a year to India by 2030. On current values, these exports would be expected to generate around AUD300 million in export sales.

Sales of this value were by no means guaranteed. “India already has access to uranium from countries who are competitors of ours, such as Kazakhstan. Australia will have to work hard to ensure we can compete with countries that already have uranium trading relationships with India,” [AUA CEO] Mr Angwin said.

Of course, the deal to sell uranium to India has been on the cards for some time now: in fact, since George II decided it was kosher back in 2005 (‘U.S.–India Civil Nuclear Agreement’). Formal agreement between the Australian and Indian states, however, was seemingly not made public until the CHOGM meeting in Perth last month (with receipt of the final rubber-stamp being delayed until the conference).

The decision is also a fulfilment of the HoWARd Government’s 2007 promise to sell uranium to India.

The difficult question of digging things up and then selling them was also happily resolved by former PM John HoWARd when he made a similar deal with Vladimir Putin.

The decision to sell uranium to Russia was cemented over the dead body of Russian anarchist Ilya Borodaenko, murdered in July 2007 by neo-Nazi thugs (‘hooligans’ in the lexicon of the Russian state) at the behest of local authorities, keen to destroy the environmental camp which Ilya had joined and which had been established at Angarsk, a small industrial town in south-eastern Siberia, established in 1948, and home to The International Uranium Enrichment Centre.

The Indian state has itself an enviable record of dealing with criminals like Borodaenko, with an estimated 14,231 custodial deaths from 2001 to 2010. According to the New Delhi-based trouble-making anti-Indian association the Asian Centre for Human Rights (PDF): “A large majority of these deaths are a direct consequence of torture in custody. But these no way reflect the extent of torture in India. These deaths as reported to the NHRC reflect only a fraction of the menace of torture and custodial deaths in India.”

After having earlier (July 2009) approved the Four Mile uranium project (while Minister for the Environment, Heritage and the Yartz), former pop singer and environmental activist Peter Garrett made the following remarks to the ALP conference:

…I conclude by saying this: I know that there are differences of opinion here, differences both within factions and within the party; but Labor has a great disarmament tradition.
That’s why I’m here. A great disarmament tradition – of course I’d like to see it strengthened.
Where is our vision here? Where is our commitment to a nuclear free future?
Where is our commitment to things like a nuclear weapons free convention?
And where is our insistence that those values that we’ve stood for in the past, and those measures that we’ve considered were absolutely crucial to disarmament, should be maintained?
On that basis delegates, we should oppose this motion.

D’oh!

Robert David Critchley 0 State of WA 1

WA policeman guilty of tipping off suspect
AAP
December 2, 2011

A FORMER policeman has been convicted of trying to tip off a suspected white extremist that his phone calls were being intercepted by police.

A District Court jury took about four hours today to convict Robert David Critchley, 43, of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

The former senior constable was supposed to be monitoring calls on January 15, 2010 during a covert police operation into white supremacist groups when he made an anonymous call to Murray Holmes, the friend of the operation’s target, Jacob Hort.

Critchley cryptically told Mr Holmes he should tell his friend with an “American wife” to get a new SIM card.

During the trial, the prosecution argued that Critchley was sympathetic to the white supremacist group, but the defendant denied the allegations and maintained his innocence.

Critchley was granted bail until his sentencing in February and was ordered to surrender his passport.

Crtichley, who is originally from the UK, also suggested he could not have made the tip off call because Mr Holmes had described the caller as sounding “Irish”.

Australian Political Blog Roll : HALP!

Greg @ Grog’s Gamut is writing a book for Scribe publishers on social media and politics, policy and journalism. As part of the project [he] thought it worthwhile trying to come up with a list of all Australian political blogs. Such a thing is actually rather difficult to accomplish…

Which is presumably what makes it worthwhile attempting amirite?

Greg has started a list but needs help with comments, corrections and clarifications.

Best comment so far comes from Benjamin Marks: Thanks for the inclusion of Economics.org.au in such an inauspicious list of boring, cowardly and unprincipled websites, who are all afraid to answer this one question that I have given them.

The blogosphere is pretty fucking cool eh?

David Duke’s Invasion of Germany Meets Opposition

Yeah so last Thursday last Friday, prior to addressing a group of radical right-wing bizarros called Outside the Network(?), US neo-Nazi leader David Duke was told by Cologne police to leave Germany. Their command was apparently made on the basis of an earlier (April 2009) decision by Czech authorities that he could similarly refrain from talking shit in Prague (Duke was touring the country to promote the Czech translation of his book My Awakening at the invitation of Czech neo-Nazis).

As a result of his current legal difficulties, Duke is asking his followers for money (Kari Huus, ‘Click here to help,’ beseeches former Klansman David Duke, MSNBC, November 28, 2011). It’s debatable whether Duke’s previous conviction for defrauding followers — he “served a year in prison in 2003 and 2004 after pleading guilty to tax fraud and stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations from supporters to pay gambling debts” — will stop the moar gullible among the international white supremacist fraternity from handing over their preciousss.

Probably not.

Curiously, in her MSNBC report Huus cites the Australian neo-Nazi blog ‘Whitelaw Towers’ and its recent post on Duke’s travails: Because the person being persecuted was a pro-White advocate … his arrest has so far been ignored by the mainstream media, and the U.S. government remains quiet about this too,” wrote James Buchanan, who describes himself as an advocate for white civil rights, on the site Whitelaw Towers. Actually, the blog simply re-publishes an article on Duke’s arrest which originally appeared on Duke’s White Civil Rights website (What Would Happen If Jesse Jackson Were Arrested in Europe?, November 27, 2011 : http://www.whitecivilrights.com/?p=6343).

Son of WA Police ~versus~ Combat 18

There has been alot said about C18 over the years, but at the end of the day we are still the most powerful and ruthless organisation the world has ever seen.

Um…

The trial of alleged neo-Nazi sympathiser and former WA policeman Robert Critchley began today in Perth, and according to news reports state prosecutor David Dempster “told the court’s jury that Mr Critchley made a 66-second call from Stirling Street in Perth to Murray Holmes, a friend of Mr Hort, on January 15, 2010”.

The call was made allegedly so that Holmes could inform his kameraden (Mr) Jacob Marshall Hort (above, centre) that he and the other members of his neo-Nazi group “Combat 18” (18=AH=Adolf Hitler) were under police surveillance.

You may remember Murray Holmes from such bands as Skrewdriver and The Quick & the Dead. In October 2007, Q&TD came to Melbourne to play a neo-Nazi gig at at the Melbourne Croatia Social Club in Sunshine. (See also : A Brief History Of Neo-Nazi Music In Australia, December 2, 2010.) You may remember Jacob Marshall Hort from such incidents as the shooting at a Perth mosque in February, 2010, conducted by and on behalf of C18. Indeed, “when police seized Mr Critchley’s mobile phone, they found a list of contacts to white supremacist groups including Blood and Terror, Terror Machine, Combat 18, Lone Wolf and The Way Forward, Mr Dempster said”.

Er, OK. Although maybe “Blood and Terror” is meant to refer to “Blood and Honour”; and while “Terror Machine” is another term for “Combat 18”, I ain’t never heard of “Lone Wolf” or “The Way Forward”. So, while they may conceivably refer to specific groups, the terms may more likely apply as more general concepts within the neo-Nazi and white supremacist milieu…

*shrugs*

In any event, C18 in Perf done a website, terrormachine.net (which they took over from the Norwegian franchise in February 2009). The site was regoed to Hort using a pseudonym.

Since the episode of Fun with Firearms outside the mosque, C18 has more or less collapsed, tho’ some remain in close contact with members of another neo-Nazi group in Sydney known as Volksfront. In late 2010, Volksfront activist Chris Smith received a suspended sentence for the crimes of assault and robbery (committed in 2009) and has used the time since to promote neo-Nazism by way of a muzak distro and to fight Teh Enimy by way of the antiantifaaustralia blog(s).

WA police and state authorities are presumably mindful of the history of groups such as Jack van Tongeren’s Australian Nationalists Movement, which in the 1980s attempted to start a racial war in WA by terrorising Perth’s Asian and Jewish communities (as well as various, largely student-based anti-racist organisations). The ANM’s bizarre and violent campaign ended as such things generally do: in murder, recrimination, and a documentary film. A further attempt to revitalise post-imprisonment Tongeren’s political career by way of a campaign of vandalism by members of a much younger group known as the White Devils in 2004 also ended in tears (and prison sentences: “the graffiti campaign included spray painting the slogans “Jews out” and references to six million at a synagogue and food mart in Menora and messages including “we will bomb you all” at a Chinese restaurant in Southlands. Posters put up featured messages including “The ANM Story, read it now” and “Jack’s back”).

antifa notes (november 28, 2011)

In Australia, Jeremy Jones has released his annual report into anti-Semitism Down Under. Among many other highlights, (Peter Campbell and Jim Perren of) Whitelaw Towers blog gets a guernsey, as does Brendon O’Connell, Darryl Potts/KinkyBoy, Creatards, the keyboard warriors on Stormfront, and various other Jew-hating bigots.

Oddly, Blood & Honour, Combat 18 and the Hammerskins don’t appear in Jones’ report. This is especially so given the exposure in March of a Melbourne Hammerskin (Kenneth Stewart) as a mercenary in Afghanistan and in January the alleged supply of information to Combat 18 by (former) WA policeman Robert David Critchley (currently on trial before his Honour Judge Stavrianou and a Jury in Perth).

In Germany, meanwhile, former KKKlown and convicted fraud David Duke picked the wrogn week–“a week that Germany was reeling over the news of a wave of immigrant shopkeeper killings by neo-Nazis”–to blather about the Master Race, and has allegedly been arrested for something-or-other.

Duke’s crime is understood to more likely concern his bad politics than his bad facelift.

Bolt, Devine & Baiada ~versus~ chicken workers (w/- BONUS! Trotskyism)

HOW brave police were to smash the Occupy Melbourne camp, tackling students and aged hippies. Meanwhile a Laverton business begged for similar help to clear a violent picket, which the Supreme Court had ordered lifted…

OK, so Bolt (Missing … one fowl swoop, Herald Sun, November 28, 2011) may have a point about “hippies”, picketers, and the (eminently reasonable) police preference for assaulting the former category of citizen.* That said, he fails to note two, rather important facts. First, police did attempt to break the picket, and in doing so seriously injured one picketer. Secondly, the picket — unlike Occupy Melbourne — had the support of the labour movement, and was intended to address — again, unlike Occupy Melbourne — some very specific, and very serious, grievances.

Finally, regarding Bolt’s attempt to portray the battle as being one between a struggling small business and violent unionists, Godfrey Moase provides a much more detailed account of the forces ranged against the super-exploited workers @ Baiada in Lessons from the #baiadastrike about the 1% (Godfrey’s Blog of Claims, November 27, 2011), while Dorothy Parker carves up Bolt’s Sydney-based comrade Miranda Devine (who makes very similar claims) in It’s Sunday, and time for a roast chicken dinner, and Miranda the Devine, who deserves a decent roasting … (November 27, 2011).

As for the socialists…

Socialist Alternative (SAlt) : Baiada workers claim victory (November 22, 2011)
Socialist Party (SP) : Baiada workers win strike (November 28, 2011)

Edge of the seat stuff in the 2011 New Zealand general election.

Manukau East COGGAN, Felicity CL 49
Mt Roskill BROWN, Patrick CL 31

I tipped that the CL would receive over 80 votes; I may therefore insist on a re-count…

RWRNZ ~versus~ ZOG // 2011 NZ Election

LOL.

Kiwi fascist Kyle Chapman and some of his kameraden belonging to Right Wing Resistance New Zealand (RWRNZ) gate-crashed an election meeting in Christchurch last Thursday.

New Zealand goes to the poles next Thursday.

Oddly enough, TVNZ (‘Thugs’ say debate stunt a ‘warning’ to New Zealand) quotes RWRNZ’s Facebook (sic) page, which in turn quotes FDB!, to the effect that:

New Zealand Right Wing Resistance / Right Wing Resistance New Zealand (RWRNZ) is a fascist street gang, mostly composed of boneheads (neo-Nazi skinheads), and led by veteran fascist militant (and Mormon) Kyle Chapman.

LOL.

Chapman’s last publicity stunt was distroing leaflets warning citizens of an Asian Invasion.

As for the left and the election, Mana appears to be attracting the most support (and certainly couldn’t do as badly as the Residents Action Movement done in 2008) while, disappointingly, the Workers’ Party is not fielding any candidates (and the Greens gonna continue to occupy a few seats in Parliament).

On a brighter note, the (Don’t F*ck With The) Communist League also gonna contest the election… but can its two brave candidates gain moar than the 74 votes the League received in 2008? (Oh. I also spotted a handful of Communist League members at the Occupy Sydney rally but sadly failed to procure any of their agitprop.)
