NSW Police ♥ Sydney Forum

The Sydney Forum, Australia’s largest annual gathering of fascists, was held on the weekend of September 18/19. On Sunday, some d00d went to Tempe to protest. His account is below.

Note that, as well as being “the Australian headquarters for hate politics” and the offices of the Australia First Party, 725 Princes Highway, Tempe is the site of a notorious murder. In April 1991 — while Saleam was behind bars for organising a shotgun assault upon the home of ANC representative Eddie Funde — members of Dr James Saleam’s previous political party, National Action, killed one another: “Bovver, twenty-five years old and already weighing 108 kilos thanks to the three or four stubbies of beer he’d consume for breakfast each morning, was shot eight times with a sawn-off .22 rifle by Perry Whitehouse, ten years his senior but less than half his size, during a drunken, confused and basically pointless argument. When Whitehouse blew him away, Bovver was wearing a singlet bearing the message: Say No To The New Gun Control Laws.”

For very self-evident reasons, organisers of Australia’s premier white-power gathering, the so-called ‘Sydney Forum’, go to great lengths to hide information about where and when their next illustrious event will be held. In the past, the assembled cream of Australia’s fascist crop have been met with large, vocal counter-rallies by antifascist activists and community groups who insist that it is simply ludicrous that a city as diverse, multicultural and tolerant as Sydney is in any way the appropriate venue for a rally of the wannabe Blackshirts. Whilst I would vigorously agree, this isn’t really one of those stories about the clash of opposing ideologies you might expect the day after the Sydney Forum. Rather this is an account of those who, wielding the threat of arrest, enable the unchallenged spread of racist propaganda and the perpetuation of xenophobia, homophobia, fabricated history and all the other regressive, hateful vile you’d expect to find at a party full of nazis.

Whilst the zeitgeist has changed rather a lot since Oswald Mosley relied on London police to “protect” the march of his British Union of Fascists down Cable Street in 1936, the parasitic relationship between fascist groups and the police has survived pretty much intact. The strategy is different, largely because it is infuriatingly hard to club a protester you don’t want to listen to in public now that we live in the age of social media and smartphone ubiquity, but the effect is the same. I should make it abundantly clear that whilst I don’t believe that the cops sympathised particularly with the assembled dignitaries of white-supremacism, it is largely irrelevant to the outcome of their hard-line ‘no criticism’ show of force – to immunise fascist ideology from ANY criticism, providing the desired separation from empirical reality fascism needs to perpetuate itself without resorting to violent means.

When I turned up to this year’s Sydney Forum with the intention of challenging the bonehead vacuum, you could say that the police conducted themselves in a manner that any private security firm would pride itself on. I didn’t even have time to make it to the opposite side of the street where I intended on standing before I was challenged, told to stop, detained and grilled whilst the assembled boneheads leered at me from the gate of their compound. Go efficiency!

At first I was told by the officer in charge that ‘my friend’ (I was alone) had just pointed a weapon at police, that he had already had to bury a colleague that week, and he was damned if he was going to let that happen under his watch. I did not see what this other kid did, so I refuse to speculate as to what might have happened, but even though it should have been abundantly clear to anybody that I was there by myself it still took a long time for the officers to concede the point. In the meantime, struggling to understand what any of his accusations had to do in any way with me (and wondering why the keynote address of a prominent international fascist propagandist and Holocaust denier deserved tax-payer funded private security) my bag was confiscated and I was searched. I was also forced to relinquish my driver’s license, under threat of arrest, and my details were recorded.

The tension was palpable. I hoisted my best impersonation of level-headedness and attempted not to splutter indignantly as the officer in charge delivered an admirably theatrical soliloquy decrying my ‘obvious’ desire to start a violent riot that would terrify the elderly residents of the street. I also learnt that I hated freedom of speech and that I was a hypocrite for not just letting the guys ‘have a barbecue’ in peace. When the curtains finally dropped, I attempted to clarify my intent (peaceful); my motives (plug refugee rights events to other activists, attempt to finally use my degree in History by rebuffing the anti-Semitic revisionist drivel); and that my solution to obvious nonsense free-speech I vehemently disagree with is opposition from my own informed, dissenting speech.

Greeted by blank stares and the seemingly reluctant report by a constable that the search of my bag yielded little more than Refugee Action Coalition fliers, water, a book, gum & cigarettes (as well as my primary ‘weapon’, a sign reading ‘welcome refugees, not fascists’), the officer in charge lost interest and left the constable to ‘process’ me. Apparently the decision had already been made, because at this point I was issued an official move along notice and told to return to my specific suburb of origin under the threat of arrest. Out of options and with thirty seconds to get going before they charged me with disobeying police instructions, I stumbled away perplexed and fuming by the absurdity of it all.

As I walked, indignant at the notion I was the biggest threat to public security in an area full of people whose idea of a good time is getting drunk and beating the shit out of anyone they regard as untermensch, a carload of men in Blood and Honour (neo-Nazi) garb pulled up alongside (perhaps mistaking short hair for fascist sympathy), to enquire about how I was on this particular day. Twenty odd seconds into my thirty and surprisingly I didn’t feel like hanging around to analyse the events of the last few minutes with them that much. Though it was clearly an exercise in stating what could not be more obvious, I assured them they were in no absolutely no danger from my sinister bleeding-heart protestations and that I was already on my way. Gesturing towards the police cars in way of explanation I added, ‘you know which side they’re on.’

Villawood : Cui bono?

The death of a prisoner at Villawood detention centre is further Bad News for Serco Australia Pty Ltd, the joint venture and local franchise of the multi-billion dollar Serco Group (UK) and Sodexo (France). Well, presumably — who knows? One of the bestest things about the state contracting foreign corporations to run Australian prisons is the extra layer of bureaucracy that comes between the public and accurate infos regarding what’s going on inside, so precisely how much death and injury affects profitability — and how much a human life is worth — is difficult to ascertain. Presumably, the corporation responsible will be financially penalised if judged to be negligent in the execution of its duty-of-care.

Like how Connex got fined if trains ran late and stuff.

Anyway, money talks, bullshit walks, and here’s a press release from RISE.

Media release
Monday, 20 September 2010 at 17:58

There are seven detainees on the roof right now, in Villawood Detention Centre. Ramesh Fernandez CEO and Ex-detainee from RISE has spoken to these men and they have told him that they will jump off the roof if no resolution is given.

This morning, a Fijian detainee of Villawood immigration detention centre committed suicide. He threw himself off one of the detention centre buildings after being told that he was going to be deported back to his country. Immediately after the incident, one of his relatives, also a detainee in Villawood, was placed in isolation and had his mobile phone confiscated.

The detainees of Villawood are extremely distressed and agitated by this incident and are fasting today to honour the memory of someone they consider one of their own. The situation at the detention centre is tense and chaotic as media and police swarm the facility and detainees are being chased to their rooms by Serco.

There are reports that immigration officials, interpreters and mental health professionals in the building are not making much effort to help the asylum detainees who are already traumatized by their own asylum seeking experiences. An asylum seeker at the detention centre says, “I don’t know what to do now and I’m scared to leave my room”. He adds that all the detainees were approached last Thursday and asked to go back to their country by the Department of Immigration.

CEO and Ex-detainee of RISE Ramesh Fernandez says “Neither the Australian government or Department of Immigration can bring his life back now, this is [a] perfect example of Department and authorities’ insensitive and destructive actions in the handling of asylum seekers”. We are receiving these reports from asylum seekers in Villawood detention centre and if these facts can be confirmed, the administrators of Villawood detention centre and those dealing with the immigration matters of these detainees will have to be held accountable.

A refugee who has asked Australia, a signatory of the Refugee Convention, to grant him the right to live free from the fear of persecution, is now dead because Australia has refused him this right. Mr Fernandez further adds, “We didn’t come to this country to die, we are here to seek protection, not detention or being driven to take our own lives behind the wire fences”.

We ask that this issue be resolved in a humanitarian way and call upon every individual to help us send a clear message to those governing Australia that our new government should be one that governs with a conscience.

Regards,

RISE Admin Refugee Survivors and Ex-detainees
Level 3, 247 Flinders Lane, Melbourne, Victoria 3000

Dunno. Maybe an RMIT Yoof Work student could be sent to Villawood to negotiate?

antifa notes (september 20, 2010)

‘Diversity’ by Belgian reich ‘n’ rollers Kill Baby Kill. The band toured Australia in 2008; Dieter Samoy, the lead shouter, committed suicide in January after being sentenced to several years jail for assault. Blood & Honour and the Hammerskins, the neo-Nazi networks responsible for organising the tour, will be presenting some more foreign bands this weekend in Melbourne. The site on which the vid was originally produced was known as podblanc.com: the site’s creator, Craig Cobb, is a Creatard, and was last year deported from Estonia to the US…

Blood & Honour / Combat 18 / Hammerskins / Volksfront

Anti-Racist Canada reports that the subject of the newly-launched ‘Combat 18’-aligned neo-Nazi skinhead network ‘Blood & Honour’ has generated some rather heated disco on Stormfront of late, with Canadian moderator Dan Martin (‘OdinPatrick’) coming down firmly on the other side of the dispute; that is, the Hammerskin- (and Volksfront-) aligned B&H. According to Martin and other Jew-hatin’ critics, C18 is a terrorist group, and its actions damage the White nationalist cause. Sadly, Martin fails to explain how he reconciles this claim with the fact that Stormfront is owned by a convicted terrorist named Don Black.

The Canadian B&H/C18 has as its fuehrer a meathead called John Marleau, previously the fuehrer of another mob called the Aryan Guard (AG). One of the few groups to take up the call by Australian White supremacists to celebrate the ‘International Day for the Elimination of Racism’ (March 21) as ‘White Pride World Wide’ (WPWW) Day, the AG had a few brief moments in the spotlight before falling apart in a bout of internecine warfare. The AG was also one of many fascist groups supported by Canadian Holocaust denialist Paul Fromm, currently meant to be on tour in Australia.

The ‘debate’ in Canada follows the sentencing last month of B&H/C18 Australia member Bradley Trappitt for crimes arising from his involvement in a shooting incident at a Perth mosque. Like Trappitt, Stormfront Down Under moderator Paul Innes (‘Steelcap Boot’) is from Perth. An attempt by the West Australian branch of B&H to organise a gig on ANZAC Day last year was unsuccessful as one of the bands — Indigenous Hate — decided to throw its weight behind B&H/C18. The angry Aryan pop group, like C18, appears to have disbanded, but it’s likely only a matter of time before something similar re-emerges.

The Hammerskin and Volksfront franchises in Australia appear to be fairly stable, with the former group organising a gig in Melbourne on Grand Final Day. Elsewhere, Mário Machado, the leader of the Portuguese Hammerskins, was last month sentenced to seven years and two months jail for the crimes of coercion, robbery, kidnapping and illegal possession of weapons, while a member of Volksfront in the US, Corey J. Miller, got into some minor trouble in July; in May, one of his kameraden, John Edward Grogan, got sentenced to 5 years jail for defacing a synagogue (in April 2009).

See : Blood and Honour vs. Blood and Honour (April 12, 2009).

Creatards

Melbourne-based Patrick O’Sullivan — who, posting as ‘RAHOWA NOW’, leaps to the defence of C18 — is the contact point for ‘The Creativity Movement’ in Australia. O’Sullivan has few followers aside from the homeless yoof he periodically recruits, but a coupla pinheads were spotted recently distroing his agitprop in Wellington (Aotearoa/New Zealand). In this case, supply could easily said to be exceeding demand. Nevertheless, last year, a rival faction of Creatards emerged in Victoria when Scott Harrison, the racist teenybopper, and former friend of O’Sullivan, decided to swap his ‘anarchist’ label for an openly and unapologetically White supremacist one. Based in Geelong, and studying at Deakin University, it’s likely that Harrison’s current infatuation will be replaced by another before too long. In Sydney, the teenybopper’s former leader Welf Herfurth — aka ‘New Right Australia & New Zealand’ — has been busy helping to develop the local franchise of Volksfront. His main ally in this endeavour is Chris Smith, who represents the interests of the Creatards in New South Wales, and is formally allied with Harrison.

New Zealand

Elsewhere, boneheads belonging to ‘Right Wing Resistance New Zealand’ have been complaining about police harassment. Although the reasons why remain unspecified, if they’re anything like other fascist vigilantes, it’ll likely be as a result of either: a) drugs; b) domestic violence or; c) public violence. Kyle Chapman, the leader of RWRNZ, was featured on Kiwi TV recently (Marc Ellis’ How the Other Half Lives), in his role as leader of another mob called ‘Survive Club’, a Whites-only group preparing for the coming Armageddon. By mutual agreement, the episode made no reference to Chapman’s decades-long involvement in far right politics.

As well as being fueher of the ‘New Zealand National Front’ (NZNF), Chapman was also, briefly, a signatory to an accord with the ‘Australia First Party’, whose annual conference took place this weekend in Sydney. Among those speaking at the event was the Canadian neo-Nazi Paul Fromm, a Holocaust denialist who participated in AG events in Canada and who is currently running for Mayor of Mississauga.

Sydney Forum

The 2010 Sydney Forum done come and gone, with relatively little fanfare. Presumably, things went swimmingly for da fash, while Sydney-based businessman, Volksfront organiser, and Master of Race Ceremonies Welf Herfurth ran a friendly but tight ship. Nevertheless, some Sydney-siders did apparently decide to hold some kinda rally in opposition to the Forum on the Sunday, across the road from the venue @ The Bunker:

In his 10th straight year at university but flush with his dead father’s cash, Jim Saleam bought a house at 725 Princes Highway, Tempe, for $90,000. It was 1983 and this grim little terrace, along the main trucking route to Port Botany and just beyond Sydney airport’s runways, has been the Australian headquarters for hate politics ever since.

Happily, the NSW police were kind enough to provide a security detail for the event, one which also apparently outnumbered protesters, who were noticeable largely by their absence. (Or rather, I had difficulty spotting them from my helicopter.) Police were also kept active in Newtown as “Newtown square/The Hub was occupied … by anarchists, anti-authoritarians, antifascists and people in solidarity to make a demonstration against the Sydney Fascist Forum happening this weekend in Tempe” (Anti-fascist Occupation of Newtown Square, Indymedia Australia, September 19, 2010).

Muslims Out!

On October 9, anti-Muslim fanatics have declared that they’ll be assembling at the Sydney Opera House for a special performance of Wagner’s Der Ring des Nibelungen — or, possibly, to mill about complaining about all them Mooselems dey tuk er jerbs. The rally is being organised by the ‘Australian Defence League’, whose previous attempt to organise a rally in Melbourne in April was truly farcical. “Australia or Islamania? It’s Our Choice!” is the winning slogan for October 9, and if more than a handful of whinging Poms choo-choose to rock up @ the tourist attraction in Sydney it will be considered, presumably, a triumph.

See : Diary of a Domestic Extremist – The EDL: Street fighting for the establishment, Mikhail Goldman, Ceasefire, August 19, 2010.

Bonus Puhakka!

Neo-Nazi MMA fighter Niko Puhakka successfully invaded Poland’s KSW XIV over the weekend. Puhakka defeated Danny van Bergen in his first match, and Borys Mańkowski in his second. As a result of his wins, the bonehead will invade Poland again for KSW XV. Puhakka has changed his MySpace page to ‘Private’ in recent months, so precisely which other Übermensch he’s mates with, and how he’s coping with the demise of ‘Kill Baby Kill’, is unknown, but he continues to wear both a Life Rune and B&H tattoo on his chest and therefore, it would seem, his Nazi heart on his sleeve.

Gråt Allians Av Vårt Hat (‘Cry Alliance of Our Hate’)

It’s election time in Sweden, and the far right, in the shape of the ‘Sweden Democrats’, appears to be on the rise. The party apparently has its origins in a far-right groupuscule/campaign titled ‘Keep Sweden Swedish’, sentiment echoed by former British PM Gordon Brown in his ‘British Jobs for British Workers’, delivered by the Scot at the 2007 Labour Party conference. Presumably, it won’t be very long before the same slogan is adopted by one of the major parties in Australia.

The Swedish election brings with it some faint echoes of the recent Australian election, at least insofar as the two major blocs — the ruling centre-right coalition and the opposition Red-Green bloc — are evenly divided in popularity, as were the ruling centre-right Labor and the Coalition in Australia. In Sweden, immigration and Islam appear to be issues of slightly greater concern to a larger and more significant minority; certainly, the ‘Sweden Democrats’ are hoping to capitalise upon anti-immigrant and anti-Islamic feeling. In Australia, on the other hand, the demise of Hansonism, and the successful absorption of much xenophobic sentiment by the major parties, has provided a significant obstacle to the (re-)emergence of far-right populism; rather, a progressive challenge has crystallised in the shape of the Greens.

Moaron that subject later. As for Sweden:

A more politically correct xenophobic party

The “crunch point” of Sunday’s election though, according to Karlsson, is denying the anti-immigrant Sweden Democrats a kingmaker role.

Immigrants make up 14 percent of the country’s 9.4 million population. The largest immigrant group is from neighbouring Finland, followed by people from Iraq, the former Yugoslavia and Poland.

The Sweden Democrats maintain that immigration has been ignored as an issue in Swedish politics.

The party has traditionally viewed immigration an economic burden, draining the welfare system and channelling jobs to newcomers who work for lower wages.

According to Karlsson, over the past few years, the party has managed to widen its appeal. “This used to be seen as a party for skinheads,” said Karlsson. “But now they seem to be men in suits. Party leader Jimme Akesson has been credited for toning down their arguments and their language and he’s also thrown out some of the more radical elements from the party,” said Karlsson.

Anyway. Here’s the vid (click on the CC button for English translation):

2010 Sydney Forum : Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition

Oh yeah.

The annual ‘Sydney Forum’ — Australia’s premiere fascist gathering — is taking place again this weekend.

Somewhere in Sydney, of all places.

The Forum brings together the dregs of the local fascist movement: members of the Australia First Party/Eureka Youth League, Blood & Honour, New Right/‘national anarchists’, One Nation Party, Volksfront, and various other racist kooks belonging to other, even tinier fascist groupuscules, or operating as independent loons.

The event takes place in two separate venues, neither of which are publicly identified as such — presumably in order to avoid The Bear Jew making trouble for the assembled patriots. In previous years, the second day’s events have taken place at AF Party headquarters in Tempe. Otherwise, last year’s Forum was kindly made possible by the Returned Services League branch @ Petersham; in 2008, there was no Forum, while in 2007, Eastwood RSL were the proud hosts. In 2006, Estonian House provided a temporary home to the fascists, while in 2005 the Russian Social Club said nyet to the neo-Nazis. In 2004 it was Bexley RSL’s opportunity to Throw The Jew Down The Well of Australian history.

And so on and so forth.

Last year’s Forum was a triumph, apparently, not least because, according to Dr James Saleam, as a result of a small group of protesters attending the first day’s proceedings: “One significant ‘plus’ out of this nuisance was that a key libeller and inciter of violence against patriotic people, Andy Moran, a Melbourne-based leftist, was identified and photographed for the first time…”

Of course, in reality, I was safely tucked away in a black helicopter many miles above the Forum, where I shall be again this year, and from which vantage point I shall once again be employing highly-sophisticated, Israeli technology to eavesdrop upon the inner-most thoughts of those careless enough not to attend the Forum without the appropriate headgear.

The fools!

The speakers whose thoughts I will be monitoring from on high include Canadian Holocaust denialist Paul Fromm, John McGrath (seemingly a former candidate for Australians Against Further Immigration in 2007 and the Progressive Conservative Party in 1980) and Rob McIntyre, a man dedicated to Better Living Resources. (According to its website, “Better Living Resources proudly supports Eagle House – a vision for the transformation for women and their children”. Eagle House is in turn a project of ‘GHS Ministries’ and the ‘Hope Foundation’.) McIntyre addressed the Inverell Forum in 2006–2009, in 2007 along with MC Welf Herfurth. Other speakers are Rob Halford — who apparently embodies the Voice of Reason but not, disappointingly, that of Judas Priest — and of course Dr James Saleam.

Brendon O’Connell and Peter Spencer have cancelled their appearances.

In other news…

One of the d00ds what came to Newtown last month to spread agitprop on behalf of the APP has been revealed as a member of the Australian Navy. Presumably, Joel Buckley looks forward to being posted up north, where he can show those “DIRTY, CAMEL FUCKING, RAG HEADED PIECES OF SHIT” that we will decide who comes to this country and the circumstances in which they come.

Onya mate.

Over the pond, Upper Hutt mother Lisa Marie Thompson has been exposed as a liar, as well as having bad taste in both license plates and politics. Thus:

‘Aryan1’ owner’s white supremacy links
The Dominion Post
September 3, 2010

A woman who claims that her personalised licence plate “ARYAN1” is the initial and surname of a former boyfriend has links to white supremacist groups and is backed by the National Front.

Upper Hutt mother Lisa Marie Thompson – who has references to neo-Nazi white-power organisation Blood & Honour on a personal webpage – has denied being racist.

She said she had no idea what “Aryan” meant and the apparent nod to Adolf Hitler’s “master” race actually referred to her former boyfriend – Andrew Ryan.

However, Ms Thompson, 32 – whose licence plate sparked a complaint to roading authorities – has links to white supremacist groups which appear active in Wellington.

The Facebook page of the body piercer, seamstress and mother of three includes “friends” posing before swastika flags and claiming allegiance to “white nationalist” skinhead groups such as Crew 38 and Hammerskin Nation…

I tells ya, this mob couldn’t lie straight in bed.

Mapuche Solidarity Rally @ Chilean Consulate : Friday, September 17

Noon
Chilean Consulate
Level 13, 390 St Kilda Road
Melbourne, Australia

In Chile, 32 Mapuche prisoners are on a hunger strike. Their protest, which began over two months ago, is intended to highlight the use by the Chilean government of Pinochet-era anti-terror legislation to criminalise Mapuche struggles for land rights and self-determination.

Chilean Indians Freed on Bail Vow to Continue Hunger Strike
Latin American Herald Tribune
September 15, 2010

SANTIAGO – Two Mapuche Indian activists freed on bail by a judge in southern Chile’s Araucania region said they will continue the hunger strike they started 65 days ago with more than 30 still-jailed comrades.

Sergio Catrilao and Pablo Canio were released Tuesday after posting bail of roughly $2,000 each.

“We will go on with the (hunger) strike until the end,” Catrilao told reporters amid a crush of family members and supporters.

Canio and Catrilao are accused in last year’s burning of a bus in Temuco, the main urban center in Araucania, where Mapuches have been torching vehicles, highway toll booths and lumber shipments as part of a campaign to reclaim ancestral lands from agribusiness and forest products companies.

The Chilean government is currently holding 106 Mapuches – most of them awaiting trial – for politically motivated crimes against property.

They remain in custody under an anti-terrorism law imposed during the 1973-1990 dictatorship of Gen. Augusto Pinochet.

The Mapuche prisoners on hunger strike demand the scrapping of the anti-terror act, which allows the state to hold people for up to two years without charges, to restrict defense attorneys’ access to evidence and to use testimony from anonymous witnesses…

The rally has been organised by the ‘Chilean Popular & Indigenous Solidarity Network’ and the ‘Latin American Solidarity Network’ (LASNET). Note that LASNET is holding a big fat conference/solidarity gathering on October 15, 16, 17 @ Trades Hall, with lots of great speakers from Latin America, Australia and the region, along with workshops on a divers range of subjects, ‘Building Bridges and Global Resistance against Multinational Corporations’.

Ice cream nun image sparks outrage… Again.

An old story has got new legs.

July 1, 2009, the British Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) upheld a complaint from 10 concerned citizens regarding:

An ad, which appeared in Delicious Magazine and Sainsbury’s Magazine, for Antonio Federici Gelato Italiano ice cream, [and] showed a priest and a nun looking as if they were about to kiss. The nun was in full habit and the priest was wearing rosary beads around his neck and holding a pot of ice cream in his hand. Text stated “KISS TEMPTATION”.

Over twelve months later (September 15, 2010), Antonio Federici Gelato Italiano ice cream done it again, with a similar complaint also being upheld by the ASA:

A magazine ad for Antonio Federici ice cream showed a heavily pregnant woman dressed as a nun standing in a church holding a tub of ice cream in one hand and a spoon in the other. Text stated “Immaculately Conceived … ICE CREAM IS OUR RELIGION”.

Mad props to Contrast Creative for the double whammy.

Historical case studies

Insurgent or irregular warfare played a role in the wars of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, though it was never the decisive element in its own right. During the American War of Independence, the Civil War, and Napoleon’s war in Spain, guerrilla or irregular forces were an important—even vital—adjunct to the operations of regular armies, and their contributions need to be understood in that context. The international anarchist movement of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries was the al-Qaeda of its time, given to spectacular acts of terrorism usually involving the assassination of crowned heads and other leading political figures of the established order. It provides a useful comparison for terrorist activities more recently.
