Nov 05, 2008 (The News & Observer – McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) — A spoof newspaper resembling the USA Today and decrying capitalism was inserted into newspaper boxes in Chapel Hill, Raleigh and elsewhere early Wednesday. “Capitalism Wins at the Polls,” the lead headline blares above a photo of a bonfire. “Anarchy Brewing in the Streets.” The spoof paper’s lead story announced that “2008 marks the 56th consecutive victory in the presidential elections for capitalism, which has successfully weathered crises ranging from the abolition of slavery to the Great Depression and the Summer of Love over the course of its 219-year administration.” In e-mails to news outlets, an anarchist group said it distributed 30,000 copies in at least 10 cities. Over 20 similar actions happened across the country. We anticipate (and hope!) that other groups will post their own press releases and action reportbacks. This cross-country, coordinated action was set for the day after election day, on the biggest news day of the year. In addition to confronting the media itself, and providing counter-information to the public, this action seems to have served as a kind of “experiment” in what can be done with the networks leftover from the conventions. Judging simply by the unprecedented numbers of cities participating, it seems to have been a success. Once again, we would encourage other groups to post their own logic behind participating.
“A Public Service Announcement”
Early this morning, many thousands of corporate newspapers in over 20 cities across the United States, including Chapel Hill and Carrboro, were given more accurate front pages. That one wealthy politician will replace another is not news worthy. Capitalism has always won at the polls, and it always will. McCain and Obama’s support for the financial bailout proved this, and ensured that any vote would be a vote for Wall St. The real stories worth telling are those of resistance and struggle, any instance where oppressed people attempt to realize dignity, autonomy, and equality in their daily lives.
We are getting organized. We will continue to ensure that the real stories get told.
Like many other people, I am delighted to see the Republicans collapsing into well-deserved ignominy, with the likelihood of the Democrats recapturing the presidency and increasing their majorities in Congress. Hopefully the latter will discontinue or at least mitigate some of the more insane policies of the current administration (some of which, such as climate change and ecological devastation, threaten to become irreversible).
Beyond that, I do not expect the Democratic politicians to accomplish anything very significant. Most of them are just as corrupt and compromised as the Republicans. Even if a few of them are honest and well-intentioned, they are all loyal servants of the ruling economic system, and they all ultimately function as cogwheels in the murderous political machine that serves to defend that system.

By most accounts, yesterday was an inspiring, world-changing moment. Of course, the election of Barack Obama as President means a lot because of who he is, but in getting there, he also appears to have redrawn America’s political map.
Many conservatives – including Tim Blair – managed to be gracious in the face of this historic shift. Even John McCain – who was utterly thrashed – was able to make a pretty moving speech that acknowledged the importance of Obama’s victory. Fair play to all of them.

My first order as Commander in Chief will be to end the war in Iraq and refocus our efforts on Afghanistan and our broader security interests. Let me be clear–my plan would not abandon Iraq. It is in our strategic interest to maintain a residual force that will go after al-Qaeda, train Iraqi security forces and protect U.S. interests. But we must recognize that the central front in the war on terror is not in Iraq, and it never was. The central front is in Afghanistan and Pakistan. It is unacceptable that almost seven years after 9/11, those responsible for the attacks remain at large. If another attack on our homeland occurs, it will likely come from this same region where 9/11 was planned. Yet today we have five times more troops in Iraq than Afghanistan…
As well as pledging to send additional troops (“at least two additional combat brigades”) to Afghanistan and to dragoon NATO forces (and finances), Obama pledged $1 billion (such a nice round number) in ‘aid’. As for Pakistan: “…if we have actionable intelligence about high-level al-Qaeda targets, we must act if Pakistan will not or cannot.” In other words, Obama will continue to reserve the right — fulsomely proclaimed by George II, and every other modern US President — to act unilaterally, and to kill people, chiefly civilians, in Pakistan, with or without the approval of the Pakistani government. On the other hand, Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani stated this week that “No matter who the President of America will be, if he doesn’t respect the sovereignty and integrity of Pakistan … anti-America sentiments and anti-West sentiment will be there”. (According to CBC: “Over the last two months, the United States has launched at least 17 strikes on militant targets in the region of Pakistan that borders Afghanistan. The strikes have reportedly killed at least 168 people, many of whom were civilians, according to Pakistani officials.”)

SPIEGEL: “Change” is the slogan of this year’s presidential election. Do you see any chance for an immediate, tangible change in the United States? Or, to use Obama’s battle cry: Are you “fired up”?
Chomsky: Not in the least. The European reaction to Obama is a European delusion.
SPIEGEL: But he does say things that Europe has long been waiting for. He talks about the trans-Atlantic partnership, the priority of diplomacy and the reconciling of American society.
Chomsky: That is all rhetoric. Who cares about that? This whole election campaign deals with soaring rhetoric, hope, change, all sorts of things, but not with issues.
For what it’s worth — and with Gub’mint coffers supposedly empty — Obama “has vowed to tackle climate change, cut taxes for 95 percent of working Americans, and guarantee near-universal health care”; on the other hand, “Obama does not have the luxury of time as more than a trillion dollars is dispensed to bail out Wall Street [and three trillion has already been spent on the invasion and occupation of Iraq]. Obama has hinted at possible names to take over as treasury secretary. He noted to CNN last week that his economic advisers include Clinton’s last treasury secretary Larry Summers, 53, as well as former Federal Reserve chief Paul Volcker, 81; and mega-rich investor Warren Buffett, 78.” He is also reportedly happy for Robert Gates to become defense secretary; Robert Gates is reportedly happy for the US to engage in pre-emptive nuclear missile strikes.

A gathering of advocates for white rights slated for this weekend in Olive Branch has been canceled.
The owners of Whispering Woods Hotel and Conference Center, where the European-American Unity and Rights Conference was scheduled for Friday through Sunday, issued a statement this afternoon calling off the event.
“The owners of Whispering Woods Hotel and Conference Center have cancelled the use of our facilities for the EURO conference scheduled for November 7-8,” the release stated. “We are committed to the safety and well being of our customers, guest[s] and employees.”
Whispering Woods officials declined comment beyond the short release, which added:
“Whispering Woods Hotel and Conference Center has a long and positive history in the City of Olive Branch and has every desire to continue to be a positive influence in the DeSoto County community.
“We would like to thank the leaders of the City of Olive Branch for working with us through this difficult and unfortunate chain of events.”
Organizers of the conference could not be reached immediately for comment.
The white power group, with which former Louisiana legislator and KKK figure David Duke has been linked, had contracted to use the Olive Branch facility for the weekend session that was expected to draw an undisclosed number of participants and possibly as many protesters.
Whispering Woods officials said earlier they were unaware of the nature of [the] group when the contract was signed…

Nearly four years ago, an Aboriginal man named Cameron Doomadgee was escorted into the police station on Palm Island, off the coast of North Queensland. A healthy 36-year-old, he had never been in trouble with the law. An hour later, he was dead.
Mr Doomadgee had been involved in a scuffle inside the police station with the arresting officer, Senior Sergeant Chris Hurley. An autopsy found Mr Doomadgee had four broken ribs, a ruptured spleen and a liver “virtually cleaved in two”. The injuries were described as similar to those of a car or plane crash victim.
There have many such deaths; a Royal Commission even investigated the phenomenon 20 years ago. Its recommendations have not prevented Aborigines from continuing to be arrested and imprisoned at a far higher rate than white Australians. Thanks largely to the efforts of certain journalists, Mr Doomadgee’s death wasn’t just another black death in custody, of which there have been many. There was public outrage. One Aboriginal leader [Noel Pearson] likened it to the murder by South African police of Steve Biko, the anti-apartheid activist.
Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody: On 10 August 1987 Prime Minister Hawke announced the formation of a Royal Commission to investigate the causes of deaths of Aboriginal people while held in State and Territory gaols. The Royal Commission was established in response to a growing public concern that deaths in custody of Aboriginal people were too common and poorly explained. The Letters Patent formally establishing the Commission were issued by the Governor-General on 16 October 1987. Similar Letters Patent were issued by the States and the Northern Territory.
The Commission examined all deaths in custody in each State and Territory which occurred between 1 January 1980 and 31 May 1989, and the actions taken in respect of each death. The Commission’s terms of reference enabled it to take account of social, cultural and legal factors which may have had a bearing on the deaths under investigation.
Queensland – governed for two decades by a despotic right-wing premier, Joh Bjelke-Petersen, with the assistance of an often brutal and corrupt police force – is still known as Australia’s Deep North [and its capital, Brisbane, as Pig City]. And there are few spots worse than Palm Island, founded as an Aboriginal penal colony and nowadays a byword for dysfunction and despair.
Sgt Hurley’s conduct was investigated by his friends; he even collected the detectives from the airport. He denied assaulting Mr Doomadgee, saying he must have fallen on him. The coroner decided Sgt Hurley caused the fatal injuries by punching him. However, no charges were laid.
Uproar ensued and the case was reviewed. In June last year, Sgt Hurley stood trial on the mainland, where an all-white jury acquitted him of manslaughter. The verdict was greeted with jubilation by police officers, who had staged rallies in support of Sgt Hurley, claiming he had been “hung out to dry”.
Eight months later, prime minister Kevin Rudd apologised to indigenous Australians for their past treatment, vowing that “the injustices of the past must never, never happen again”. On Palm Island, people were still grieving for Mr Doomadgee – and for his son, Eric, who hanged himself in 2006, and for Patrick Bramwell, another islander who comforted Mr Doomadgee as he lay dying in his cell. Mr Bramwell hanged himself last year.
In parliament, Mr Rudd spoke of “unfinished business”. Over the past 12 days, the loose ends of the Palm Island saga have been tied up. A community leader, Lex Wotton, was convicted by an all-white jury of inciting the riot that erupted after Mr Doomadgee’s post mortem. And 34 Queensland police officers – the largest single batch ever – were awarded for their bravery during that riot.
Mr Wotton could be jailed for life. Sgt Hurley, who was suspended on full pay for two years, has returned to the police service and been promoted. He received a £40,000 [$100,000] payout. An inquiry into allegations that he ran over an Aboriginal woman’s foot and then drove off concluded that he should receive counselling. Sgt Hurley has yet to be counselled.
Those who believe that Australia has cast off its racist past, or that a black man’s life counts for much here, or that Mr Rudd’s apology in February has improved the lives of ordinary Aborigines, would do well to reflect on recent events on Palm Island.
AUSTRALIAN Muslims are angry about an internet game in which players set out to “wipe out the Muslim race with an arsenal of the world’s most destructive weapons”. No one in the Australian Government seems able to do anything about it…
The game was created by a Brisbane man and was removed from his website after the initial complaints from Mr Trad about a month ago.
But it remained available on a Canadian website [that is, Domain Privacy Group, Inc., c/o muslimmassacre.com, 5160 Yonge St. Suite 1800, Toronto, ON M2N 6L9, CA, is the address given for the registrant — the IP location is the United States].
Following publicity in The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald yesterday [Asher Moses, Muslim Massacre online game causes outrage, November 4, 2008], the game vanished from the Canadian site.
It is not clear, however, if there is anything the law can do to stop it reappearing in yet another corner of the internet.

In 2006, the Government was powerless to remove from the internet a racist board game based on the Cronulla riots. It was eventually removed by the US-based web host, Angelfire, following extensive lobbying by anti-racism groups.
Similarly, in 2007 a game based on the Virginia Tech massacre, developed by a Sydney man, was removed by its web hosting service after the Federal Government failed to come up with a way of using its powers to have the game blocked.
However, this sort of content could be blocked in future if the Government proceeds with its controversial plans for mandatory ISP-level filters of “illegal” material.
A Sydney-based Jewish businessman bankrolling a shoot-’em-up warfare game pitting Israeli troops against Iranians says the aim is to “throw out a challenge to Iran” after its President vowed to wipe Israel off the map.
But Kevin Bermeister, world renowned for being sued by the music industry in a multimillion-dollar lawsuit over the Kazaa file-sharing program, said his intention was also to take the war between Jews and Muslims out of the real world and into cyber space.
The online multiplayer game, Rising Eagle – Gaza, was officially released as a free download less than a week ago. It earns revenue through advertising billboards peppered throughout the game environment…

Muslim Massacre has been around for a while, its creator, Eric Vaughan (Brisbane), announcing its launch in June 2008. It came to the attention of the corporate/state media three months later, in September. Initially, Eric withdrew the game, and issued an apology. Subsequently, he changed his mind, and republished it. Since then, the game has been republished elsewhere, including two sites hosted by local neo-Nazis: Martin Fletcher (Sydney) of the Australian Protectionist Party on his Downunder Newslinks site, and Colin Campbell (Adelaide), a Creator (a member of a tiny white supremacist religious cult).
In addition to being a webmaster for the APP — which is currently seeking to bring British Nationalist Party leader Nick Griffin to Australia next month — Martin is also responsible for distributing online the “racist board game based on the Cronulla riots” (otherwise known as Cronulla 2230), Holocaust denial and other anti-Semitic literature, and the cartoons produced by Tom Metzger’s ‘White Aryan Resistance’ (even earning Tom’s praise for doing so). Here’s an example of Martin/WAR’s humourous take on racial politics:
In October 1990, the SPLC won $12.5 million in damages against Tom Metzger and WAR when a Portland, Oregon, jury held the neo-Nazi group liable in the beating death of an Ethiopian immigrant (Mulegeta Seraw; seeAnti-fascist organizing in Portland 1988-1993, October 12, 2007 for more details). Terrible Tom was also implicated in an earlier crime when, in 1988, five members of the original ‘Confederate’ Hammerskins in Dallas — Christopher Greer, 23, John Jordan, 17, Michael Lawrence, 20, Sean Tarrant, 18 and Daniel Wood, 18 — “chased and attacked minorities who attempted to enter Robert E. Lee Park in downtown Dallas. The five were apparently inspired by a racist rally they attended in Tulsa that June where Tom Metzger, leader of White Aryan Resistance (WAR) spoke. When they were arrested, the defendants had baseball bats and broken pieces of concrete, which they apparently intended to use to recreate the Kristallnacht to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the attacks on Jewish stores and homes that took place on November 9, 1938 in Nazi Germany”. The five were sentenced for the crime in April, 1990.

“Three neo-Nazis who planted a shrapnel-filled bomb in an night club hosting an anti-fascist rock concert were sentenced to short prison terms for “hooliganism.” The defendants received sentences ranging from two and a half to four years for planting a bomb at the “Roks Club” in St. Petersburg on October 13, 2007. A security guard noticed smoke coming from a bag the defendants had placed on the stage and took it outside, where police defused it. Rather than convicting them of extremism or a hate crime, the court found that the defendants, who are members of the “Slavic Union” and were found to be in possession of neo-Nazi paraphernalia, set the bomb because of “personal dislike” for people inside the club. Initial charges of terrorism were for some reason dropped, leading to accusations by anti-fascists that the father of one of the defendants, a police officer, was influencing the proceedings.”

“Neo-Nazis attacked concert goers at a St. Petersburg night club and placed an explosive device in the building, according to an October 15, 2007 report by the Sova Information-Analytical Center. The Rox Club was the scene of the violence on October 13. Around two dozen neo-Nazis armed with pipes and bottles attacked five club goers inside the venue; other attacks took place nearby, including a stabbing that left a victim hospitalized in serious condition. Security extinguished the explosive device, which neo-Nazis took credit for on one of their web sites. Background:
An all-white jury has returned a verdict of ‘guilty’ in the trial of Palm Island leader Lex Wotton for ‘rioting with destruction’.
Mr Wotton is facing a sentence of up to life in prison. He has been remanded in custody to reappear in Townsville District Court on November 7 before Judge Michael Shanahan.
The verdict was met initially with silence from Mr Wotton’s friends and family, who have been in court every day during the three-week trial. But as the reality began to sink in, his mother, Agnes, cried out ‘No justice’ as Correctional Services officers led Mr Wotton into the rear of the courthouse.
His wife Cecelia, and his children, were assisted from the courtroom by friends. They sobbed outside as a crowd of around 20 supporters looked on in stunned silence.
Later, the group braved the media scrum waiting outside the courtroom. Cecelia had to be assisted into a taxi, unable to speak and barely able to walk.
Mr Wotton was charged after the November 2004 uprising on Palm Island, in which a police station, adjoining courthouse, a police residence and a vehicle were destroyed by fire.
The uprising occurred after the death in custody of Mulrunji Doomadgee, a 36-year-old Palm Island man who had been arrested for public nuisance by Senior Sergeant Chris Hurley, the officer-in-charge of the Palm Island police station.
Within an hour of his arrest, Mulrunji lay dead on the floor of a police cell, a victim of massive internal injuries, including a ruptured spleen, four broken ribs and a liver that had been ‘almost cleaved in two’ from a huge compressive force.
A subsequent coronial inquest found that Snr Sgt Hurley was responsible for the death. It also uncovered numerous breaches of procedures by Queensland Police in the ensuing investigation.
The community erupted on November 26 – a week to the day after the death – after they were told at a town meeting that a pathologist’s report had found Mulrunji’s death was an accident.
After several years of fully paid leave while awaiting trial on manslaughter charges (of which he was acquitted) Snr Sgt Hurley has since received a promotion, and is now an Inspector of police working on the Gold Coast.
He received a $100,000 compensation payout from the Queensland Government for property lost in the fire, and his legal bills were covered by the Queensland Police Union and via fundraising efforts by QPS members.

In the course of the interview, Ian and Si make reference to an article by George Monbiot, written partly in response to Crowd Bites Wolf. It was published in The Guardian on May 1, 2001, and titled ‘Violence is Our Enimy’. An extract:
…Four or five years ago, video newsreels such as Undercurrents and Conscious Cinema broadcast heroic images of peaceful campaigners being dragged away and beaten up by police. Today the means of instruction have changed. Crowd Bites Wolf, a commemoration of last September’s protests in Prague, produced by a collective called Guerillavision, celebrates anarchist attacks on police lines, including a firebombing in which a policeman – who had not been issued with fireproof clothing – was severely burnt. Another sequence frames a police helmet as if it were a target in a video game before the helmet is struck by a rock and its occupant collapses.
This is a fetishisation of violence, a sadistic pornography of pain. A few years ago, it would have been furiously dismissed. Today I am sure that the great majority of activists are privately horrified by these images. But they appear to have lost the will to speak out.
It’s not hard to see why. While funny, inclusive, colourful events, organised by women as well as men, still take place all over the country, some of the key planning meetings for the big demonstrations have become dominated by a handful of aggressive and overbearing men. People questioning their plans are dismissed as “reformists” or “middle class wankers”. Inverted snobbery (articulated in some cases by men whose estuary accents come and go as the occasion demands) has become a powerful weapon against competing ideologies…

While Col’n and the other pair maintain a number of Creator sites — not without a few hiccups along the way — Patrick has denounced the other mob as being agents of ZOG JOG™. Rather than maintaining a web presence, Patrick spends his valuable time putting stickers up around town and treating fellow Stormfront members to brief, angry missives. Patrick’s own mob is now known as ‘The Creativity Movement’ (TCM), and he is listed by the US-based cult as the main (and only) contact for Australia (PO Box 1622, Collingwood, 3066, Victoria, [email protected]). For those that are not in the know, TCM is an abbreviation that refers to a group who call themselves “The Creativity Movement”. Prior to TCM’s formation in 2003, any reference to “the Creativity Movement” was in relation to all Creators, no matter what their status was within The Church. Since that date, things have changed. The name is now more or less owned by the group calling themselves “The Creativity Movement”, and can no longer be used as a blanket reference to all Creators. On April 6, 2005, ‘Pontifex Maximus’ Matt Hale was sentenced to a 40-year prison term for his attempt to solicit the murder of Judge Joan Lefkow, who had ruled against Hale’s Church in a patent case. Lefkow was vilified as a “probable Jew,” “criminal judge” and “kike- and nigger-loving” traitor. Hale’s projected release date is December 6, 2037.
Since his incarceration, Hale has become something of a martyr for Creators, as well as other Nutzis. Recently, William ‘Bill’ White, Pontifex Maximus of the “American National Socialist Workers Party” (ANSWP), has been arrested and jailed for allegedly using his website to solicit another person to injure a juror in Hale’s case on account of their role as the foreperson of the jury that convicted him.

Closer to home, fellow Stormfront member Dr James Saleam recently made a trip to Wellington to address several score boneheads belonging to the New Zealand National Front as they gathered outside the Parliament building. While there, ‘Jim’ took the opportunity to have himself photographed fondling a book which once belonged to Ash, one of the individuals involved in FightDemBack! in New Zealand.
Exactly why the Jew-hating Jim agreed to have his photo taken — and why he gave permission to Queensland-based neo-Nazi Jim Perren to publish it on his blog, ‘Whitelaw Towers’ — is unexplained. (The caption which accompanies the photo reads “Australia First spokesperson Jim Saleam checks out Asher Goldman’s favorite [childhood] book… hopefully to get some insight into the twisted mind of a Zionist. The inscription reads ‘To our darling Asher on your third birthday love mummy and daddy’.”) After all, it was only a few months ago, in September, that Dr. Jim registered his disapproval of a political prank directed at his party during local council elections: “There are a number of standard lines people tend to trot out when they want to oppose us,” he said. “This Nazi rubbish is one of them”. Being pictured holding a childhood book which once belonged to a young Jewish man — a number of whose relatives perished in the Holocaust — is just… well… c r e e p y.

Though it resembles a promotional still from the 1960 horror flick The Brides of Dracula, starring Peter Cushing, the photo (which apparently circulated among white supremacists on the Internet) actually shows Women for Aryan Unity activist Victoria “Vickie” Cahill standing over the embalmed (we hope!) corpse of David Lane, one of the inner-circle members of the Bruders Schweigen, or Silent Brotherhood, a white nationalist terrorist organization also known as The Order…
…Cahill has raised the ire of another prominent female in the white nationalist movement — Abby Chelf, the wife of Randal Krager, leader of the racist skinhead gang Volksfront — by distributing an essay that was harshly critical of Christian Identity, a bizarre racist interpretation of the Bible that is practiced by as many as 50,000 white nationalists, including Chelf.
Cahill subscribes to Wotanism, the racist neo-pagan religion promulgated by Lane.
Titled “Christian Identity, The Synagogue of Satan,” the essay called Christian Identity practitioners “direct enemies of our folk and our Heathen roots” and “a weed that needs to be viciously ripped out.”
Judging by the blistering responses on Volksfront’s website, it’s safe to say Chelf and her fellow Volksfront skins are looking to smash Cahill’s pumpkin.”
